The European Children’s Travelling Language Library
Date du début: 1 oct. 2009,

EuroLib answers 3 needs:1. To create an early onset of European language experiences using a format that can resonate with the imagination of young students2. To introduce books as the best source of autonomous lifelong learning, and directly attack the lowering levels of book readership. 3. To promote the idea of Europe and its cultural diversity Travelling libraries of the most beautifully illustrated children's books in multiple European languages will travel from school to school across Europe. Students will be in the 1st year that they start any language learning. Each school has the library for a period and has to carry out a number of pedagogic and collaborative activities before, during and after the visit of the Library and place the results on the project website for use and viewing by other schools. Activities will include inter-comprehension, comprehension, creative expression, criticism, reflection, task-based learning, collaboration and using languages within a social context. On the project website and travelling with the library itself will be tools, teacher diaries and teacher guides. Products of the project will be available in the project languages The impact on students will include:1. Exposure to the rich cultural heritage of Europe3. Motivation to learn languages 4. Motivation to read books as a source of autonomous life long learning5. Reinforcement of emerging literacyAt the close of the project an Association will be formed to enable the continuation and enlargement of the project . It is envisaged that Library associations and book publishers will be involved in the association. The sustainability strategy will include a complete template that will enable authorities, libraries to replicate the travelling library methodology and use the activities, this will enable the growth of the project and permit indefinite continuation and significantly enlarge the impact group.
