Date du début: 1 sept. 2014,
Date de fin: 31 août 2017
PROJET
TERMINÉ
The aim of the Euro-Asia summer school ‘The EU, Asia and Global Governance’ organized by the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies in association with Hitotsubashi University (Japan) and Seoul National University (South Korea) is to bring together talented students from Asia and Europe to study key aspects of global governance from comparative perspectives. This is a key opportunity for young talents to meet and interact and therefore to facilitate inter-cultural dialogues on global governance. The summer school brings together the multidisciplinary, multi-sectors and multinational expertise of the three partners in order to ensure the academic excellence of the project. The main specificity of the summer school comes from the fact that it is organized on both continents. The first week of the summer school always takes place either in Tokyo or Seoul and the second week is organized in Leuven. The mobility of the students and teaching staff creates unique opportunities for inter-cultural dialogues, meetings with policy makers in Japan, Korea and the EU as well as to visit the heart of the European Institutions in Brussels. This direct interaction between young lifelong learners, academics and policy makers is only being made possible by this mobility scheme. The European Union and East Asia are major actors in global governance. In a globalized world, the two regions are confronted with similar challenges, like the ongoing financial crisis, rising protectionism, human rights violations and poverty, that both require regional and global problem-solving. However, mutual knowledge of the European Asian perspectives on these global issues and how they should be dealt with is often lacking. The main goal of the summer school is to examine and compare how these major issues are being looked at both in the EU and in Asia.
