TERMINÉ
The 2014 edition of "The Diplomatic Agenda" project, its first truly international adventure, will take place in the beautiful Romanian town of Brașov in July this year, with the main theme of "Cultural diversity and ethnic minority". The Diplomatic Agenda is part of the International Affairs' community of the Romanian youth NGO "Volunteers for Ideas and Projects" and aims to obtain European financing via the Erasmus Plus Programme.
The central focus of our project, programmed to take place between the 13th-20th of July, is to improve the level of awareness and solidarity amongst Europe's youth by helping them promoting their unique culture and ethnic roots and, at the same time, by educating them in recognizing and fighting stereotypes that lead to discriminatory attitudes.
Under the organizing team' careful guidance, the selected students will make good use of their different cultural and ethnic backgrounds to discuss and promote acceptance and mutual understanding between peoples of different cultures and traditions.
Our mission is to not only point out all the reasons that lead to inequity and unjust treatments, but also to improve our participants' critical and objective thinking, increasing their appetite for knowledge and, ultimately, creating a truly functional and multicultural environment.
The participants, 30 in total, come from various regions of Europe: Romania, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Bulgaria, Turkey in our attempt to cover some of the numerous causes of inequality. Formal activities will mainly consist of workshops and debates that will help develop both their soft skills and hard skills, thus improving their overall ability to interact in a culturally diverse society. For instance, by encouraging intercultural dialog, we will try to make them more aware of the significance of peace and peaceful conflict resolution in a rapidly shifting world, a world where the traditional borders were replaced by other, less visible ones, in a process fueled by the ongoing phenomenon of globalization.
Furthermore, the project will have two representatives of minority groups from each country, in order to share both sides' point of view, to diversify information and find out relevant details for the project.
Besides these professionally oriented debates/discussions and workshops, which will focus on stimulating the students' natural abilities and qualities, the project will also include a final conference. We aim at ensuring the presence there of some important and notorious specialists who will be able to make meaningful speeches and engage heated debates on the issues proposed by The Diplomatic Agenda.
To sum up, all our efforts are meant to change, or at least influence, our participants' way of thinking, to convince them to take the initiative and opt for a proactive approach, to tackle the problems and, ultimately, to further spread the word about what they learned in Brașov and about how important and productive it is to communicate with people from various cultures.
