The CoSafe project aims to increase the preparedness for major accidents and extreme situations in rural areas and to develop emergency medical care (EMC) in extreme conditions in the NPP region. Improved preparedness rescue and prehospital capacity will as well increase basic safety for the tourists as well as the inhabitants in the NPP region. This com-prises also the development of: * collaborative training methods and exercises in the management of major accidents and disasters * new enhanced safety products and services, covering different perspectives and the full spectrum from the scene of the accident via pre-hospital care to hospital care * operational service solutions for cooperation and collaboration between the NPP countries in management of disasters in sparsely populated areas * a NPP-network and an internet based community for disaster management in sparsely populated areas, the CoSafe network. Other important goals to accomplish are improved cold protection of victims, improved tele-communications capacity and an increased level of safety for rescue personnel. This will be implemented trans-nationally through collaborative training and development of new ICT en-hanced equipment, products and services. Product and service development will focus on: * easy to use products and equipment for patient protection * overall safety of victims/patients and rescue personnel * improved remote communication during rescue processes Achievements: The project has developed 36 products and services which focus on improving different aspects of disaster preparedness and management in sparsely populated areas. Please find brief information on some of these products and services below, more information can be found at our homepage www.cosafe.eu GUIDE GUIDE is a webbased application which can be used to help plan the preparedness for major accidents and disasters. It can also be used during an emergency to help locate equipment and other resources. The program is based on Google map which means it can be implemented anywhere in the world. SNAM The Swedish National Air Medevac (SNAM) exercise was conducted in September 2009 in Akureyri, Island. The exercise was organized in collaboration with the Swedish and Icelandic Cosafe teams. The aim of this exercise was to strengthen the international cooperation concerning the preparedness for emergencies and disasters. A report has been written and posted on the homepage. Casualty protection tests Tests have been performed on common covering for casulaties used in Scotland, Iceland, Finland and Sweden. Thermal insulation and effect of wind and moisture was meassured. The results shows the effect of adverse weather conditions on the different coverings used for casualties.
