The Chronicles of Narni II
Date du début: 8 févr. 2016, Date de fin: 7 févr. 2018 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Virtus Italia Association (in partnership with Asociaciòn La Rotllana) presents the EVS project: THE CHRONICLES OF NARNI II. The project will take place in Narni. It is home to some 20,000 people and is a dynamic and modern town, with an important focus on welfare and culture. The 4 volunteers will be able to live at the hostel Sant'Anna (www.ostellocentrosperanza.it) in the city center of Narni, very close to the two structures involved in the project, one for unaccompanied minors and one for disabled persons , in which they will perform activities. The Association ensures comfort (common rooms, reception area, dining area, laundry, night porter, television and Wi-Fi internet connections) and the total absence of any risks tied specifically to guests staying in the hostel, where all facilities have recently been upgraded to respect applicable legislation. The project will be a serious and deep educational opportunity, but also a personal and professional growth possibility, which will provide the experience to know the models of social intervention to migrants and people with disabilities. As volunteers will offer a service while living in close contact with a local community, inevitably involved, personal understanding can only be enriched by direct contact with different cultures (Italian and that of the structure’s guests). This condition promotes exchanges between young volunteers and young residents, encouraging a culture of peace and intercultural dialogue, solidarity and active citizenship. The following areas of activity for involving beneficiaries have been identified: 1) welcoming, protection and integration for foreign minors (companionship for educators during the various phases of the day, support during entertainment, participation in Italian language courses, listening services, assistance to social operators in developing reports, etc.); 2) assistance, entertainment and integration/inclusion of the disabled (support to assistants, entertainment, listening, small services, companionship for educators during outings, support in the preparation of documents, etc.); 3) socialization and intercultural exchanges with the local population (encounters with local youth, participation in local events, visitation of traditional spaces of social interaction, etc.); 4) language and other training activities – formal/informal training with respect to specific social fields (L2 Italian language course organized by the town of Narni, language training, professional and experiential training with Virtus staff, etc.); 5) understanding local and Italian culture (visits, including guided visits to museums, archaeological sites and cultural events, meetings/visits to the university, debates and discussions of current events in Italy, research projects and interview for the local population made by volunteers, 6)events/open day discussions of issues related to human rights, the fight against discrimination, and active and European citizenship. We are currently imagining that volunteers will be involved 35 hours per week, including language training. “Working” hours will be from Monday to Friday. Generally, Saturday and Sunday are free.Naturally, outside of established hours staff and mentors will provide the necessary guidance and assistance to volunteers. In addition to a basic understanding of the Italian or English language, no particular educational requirements or specific experience will be requested, what is more as the proposed activities will be managed by highly qualified professionals. The methodology of the project will be characterized by the ability to listen. The listen is important to pay attention in order to recognize special needs and expectations of the project target group, so as to be able to coordinate and maximize the available resources. In addition, the project maintains focus increasingly on guidance information: the guidance becomes a continuous training process aims to promote autonomous choices by the individual. The main expected result is to stimulate the volunteer’s curiosity, the personal skills to become personally engaged in EVS project activities, in the future EVS projects and in other European programs.
