The archipelagos sailing vessels (Skärgårdens segelskutor)

Yachts, ketches, schooners and other small boats were a common sight in the archipelagountil the middle of the 1900s when they were replaced by engine- powered steel ships.During the 1980s and the 1990s, the sailing tradition was revived, and in the spring of2002, representatives for the organisations behind the traditional ships in Finland foundedthe national organisation (The sailing society) Kustkultur in Finland.The aim and goal with the project Skärgårdens segelskutor was to find new applicationsfor the traditional ships with the goal to improve usage of the ships and to support thearchipelagos tourism companies by means of cooperation with the archipelagos restaurants,shops, housing companies and ports.Environment- and quality aspects were strongly accented in the project, which wouldestablish common marketing and sales for all ships.
