TELL ME - Theatre for Education and Literacy Learning of Migrants in Europe

CONTEXT / BACKGROUNDThe migratory phenomenon involves Europe as a whole and therefore the project was thought in transnational terms. That is why the choice of partners was carried out with great care, starting from the objectives and the results that there was prefigured in the first instance and by the need for a geographical diversification that would involve countries with different problems:- Italy and Turkey, the first high-impact countries;- Sweden, one of the main destination countries of the flow of migrants;- Portugal, a country with less impact but still troublesome considering the Lusitanian socio-economic situation.The 5 partners will help in differentiated and optimally ways to the success of the project.The Nobel Committee for Disabled founded by Nobel Prize for Literature Dario Fo, whose mission is aimed at disadvantaged groups, has a clear international prestige and has inside top-level skills in the applicability of the theatrical tool. The Committee may also convey the project results to an international audience by ensuring a very useful visibility for its future sustainability.The Italian association Nuovi Linguaggi has extensive skills in the management of European projects and brings a dowry of 2 Grundtvig Workshop that we may consider good profits practices that inspired the project.The Turkish Directorate of National Education has highest level skills in the education and literacy of immigrants.The Swedish partner IFALL is engaged "on the ground" in the education of migrants and has strong skills in theatre.The Portuguese partner ASTA will provide important contributions to the methodology of the project having regard to its relevant expertise both, educational and theatrical. Also important is the contribution in terms of a vision that comes from a country with different characteristics in the context of migration.OBJECTIVESThe difficulty in mastering the language is one of the most important components of material, social and psychological insecurity experienced by migrants in the process of their difficult integration in any country. The project's specific objective is to help improve the educational provision (with particular regard to that related to literacy) to a target group with special needs using tools and theatrical methods that can be a kind of "lubricant" in the communication and relational mechanisms.PARTICIPANTSThe project participants are operators of adult education, migrant learners and stakeholders involved in the multipliers events and other dissemination activities.ACTIVITIES AND METHODOLOGIESThe project includes activities primarily related to the production of a set of intellectual output including Guidelines for the two types of training activities identified: workshops for professionals and courses for migrant learners.Among the intellectual output are also provided a "Social" platform for the creation of a European community on the topics and an Edu-docufilm.Two workshops and two courses will serve as a test for the methods developed.RESULTSThe main results that we want to get are:1. an increase of skills by educators who deal with migrants,2. an increase in the number of courses that use the methodology: those organized by the partners, as well as those organized in their respective countries,3. to make the methodology a European reference product in terms of characterization, significance and usability.IMPACTS- Upgrading skills and professional development opportunities for educators;- Innovative approaches that provide the target groups:• new and best practices to provide for the needs of migrants • new approaches to address social, ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversities• more inviting educational and training programs, in line with the individual needs and expectations• use of participatory approaches and ICT based methodologies • more effective activities for the benefit of local communities - More modern, dynamic, committed and professional environment within organizations,- Improving the ability to operate at EU / international level.POTENTIAL BENEFITS IN THE LONG TERMThe project has the ambition to constitute a complete product consisting of several integrated elements that can represent a standard of reference at European level and that, therefore, can be used not only within the training offer of the involved partners, but that is adopted by a large number of workers involved in the education of migrants.In this direction, the aegis of the Erasmus+ program and the presence of a Nobel Prize will represent the added values to ensure a high level product, highly visible and impactful.
