Recent studies have found that exports of goods and services from the Berlin/Brandenburg area to accession countries are stagnating. Reacting to this trend, regional policies are being introduced to better link the Berlin/Brandenburg regional economies to the neighboring western Polish economies and promote knowledge-based regional economic development. . Objectives The border regions operation "Teico-Net - Technology, Enterprises, Innovation, Cooperation – Network" aims at the provision of new sources of employment and related jobs. More specifically, the operation fosters stronger links between old and new Member States economies and supports internationalization efforts and cross-border co-operations of technology-oriented SMEs. Teico-Net also aims to elaborate policy recommendations for improving support structures for technology-oriented SMEs, Results TEICO-Net strengthens trade relations and cooperation among SMEs of the participating regions and stimulates the development of interregional company networks and clusters with a particular focus on the border regions. The operation also results in the improvement of policy frameworks, supports structures for SME cooperation, and produces recommendations for measures that could be integrated in the Operational Programmes of the participating regions in the next Structural Funds period. Activities include exchange of experience and joint assessment of existing policy frameworks for SME innovation and internationalization as well as the identification and transfer of good practice and workshops for practitioners and policy-makers.
