„Technik obsługi turystycznej zawodem przyszłości na lokalnym rynku pracy”

Project background:
Secondary School of Hotel and Tourism Industry, specializes in teaching the youth tourism and hotel catering. We do our best to make the students perfect tourist leaders and guides. Tourist practices have been made in Elblag city and nearby so far. Our students took part in Leonardo da Vinci project, and together with the teachers went on a 2-weeks’ training period to Frankfurt over the Odra River. It was very successful. The students were extremely satisfied with the practice they made there; they learnt a lot of new skills, gained more knowledge about tourism and hotel and improved the language skills.
We have decided to seize the opportunity and continue foreign training periods. We are eager to take part in other projects and cooperate with other foreign countries.
We all hope this is the best way to put plans into action and make for our students an easier way to find a better job and career perspective.
Aims of the project:
-culture and creativity as well as issues about marketplace especially those connected with unemployment among the youth
-gaining new qualifications in hotel and tourism industry
- developing language skills (English and German), especially in hotel and tourism industry
- cooperating with various employees from different cultural backgrounds
- awarding certificates makes it easy to get a job in the future
Participating in the project mobilizes our students to look for various job perspectives and job opportunities in the EU. It is also a great occasion for going abroad and overcoming language weaknesses.
The number of students and the field of study:
Our students, who will take part in the project, are of II, III and IV class studying tourism service. They are at the age of 17-20. They mostly come from north-eastern part of Poland, where the unemployment rate is very high.
Steps to take:
1 Recruitment- organizing meeting about all the procedures connected with the training and its participants
2 Language preparations- language tests (knowledge of grammar, vocabulary as well as cultural aspects of a chosen country )
3 Transport and safety- organizing transport to a final destination and providing insurance for all the participants both during the journey, their stay and the way back.
4 Training period- assuring the best trainings and tourist practices, as well as obtaining technical qualifications, overnight stay, practice in hotel or tourist facilities, organizing cultural programs, local transport and free time activities, preparing certificates.
5 formal procedures- signing agreements with the partner and participants; preparing settling accounts, final submission and participants submission.
Methodology used during the project:
-new qualifications and work experience in hotel and tourism industry (method: actions performed by students during practice at the reception, housekeeping, catering will let them use their knowledge and skills gained at school in practice)
-language competence (method: language preparation before departure, vocational language classes, dialogues in a foreign language at the destination)
-creativity (method: making students deal with unexpected situations will force them to use their interpersonal skills and creativity to solve problems)
-culture (method: cultural preparation before departure, educational trips (1-2), cooperation with people from different cultural backgrounds)
- problems with unemployment (method: working abroad will encourage students to look for a job in the European Union , taking part in the project will enlarge their chances to get a job in a local market)
A short description of expected results:
- gaining new qualifications and experience in hotel and tourism industry
- obtaining the Europass Mobility document written by the receiving organisation
- independent existence in a foreign country
- cooperation with other employees from different backgrounds
- breaking a language barrier which is a problem in multicultural communication.
Prospective long-lasting benefits:
- developing youth mobility which will enhance employment chances
- employing young professional workers will influence the increase of service quality
- encouraging students to self-development as far as vocational language is concerned
- development of communication skills which are crucial on a European Union job market
