“Team Up Youth – digital creativity & employability in school education”

In compliance with the EU 2020 strategy the project “Team Up Youth – digital creativity & employability in school education” will contribute to enhance the employment rate of youth, strengthen participation and social inclusion of disadvantaged youth especially with migration backgrounds and youth with disabilities. The project aims to reduce early school leaving and youth unemployment in the EU. Pupils are using mobile phones, TV and PCs mainly for leisure pursuit mostly as consumers. The Team Up project wants them to get active and creative with digital media. They will gain media literacy, critical thinking, social skills, civic and personal competences for a better participation in society and a succesful transition into the labour market. In the framework of a holistic approach the key competences of pupils will be empowered by the implementation of manifold attractive methods, school workshops and projects like radio / TV, pupil blogs, AV job application coaching, video production and digital school magazines. Extended educational concepts such as cultural education, cooperation with businesses or other outside school actors will be implemented by the project promoting creativity, new ways of thinking, inclusion and social cohesion. The project aims to provide young people at school with the skills to become lifelong learners, to empower employability, inclusive active citizenship and learning mobility. The project will provide flexible educational pathways to combine school education and first practical work experience targeted pupils with fewer opportunities. It will also provide access to open educational resources (OER) in the education and training fields, supporting ICT-based teaching and assessment practices. The project turns to young disadvantaged people and people with special social needs (aged 15 to 21). The main target group is young people from secondary modern schools, special schools and comprehensive schools with special needs in the range of language, learning, listening and communication, physical and motoric as well as mental and emotional development. Also these are people with a difficult social background (families with migration background, welfare recipients, unemployment benefit claimants) whose need for support leads back to several multiple problems. By targeted and sustainable support of the personal, social and media competences they will be supported in the transition time from school to an independent work life. Continuously the youngsters will be accompanied (from 8th to 10th grade) so that it can be drawn on subgoals and successes and there will be an optimal support until the transition to an independent and professional life. Within this project 30 teachers and youth workers will be qualified to become a Media Trainer and about 150 young people will be intensively supported in school workshops and longterm training activities. One project output is the „Practical Guide for teachers and youth workers“. This guide will outline coherent approaches for the cooperation of schools and carriers of non-formal youth media education with the aim to initiate and establish sustainable projects to empower media competences of pupils at school. The handbook will demonstrate the 3 modules “social competence”, “personal competence”, “reflexive competence” using the digital tools foto, video, radio and internet. It offers manifold inclusive methods to empower pupils with fewer opportunities . The project will also develop training/teaching materials and provide access to open educational resources (OER) supporting ICT-based teaching and assessment practices. Team Up will work out a Europe-wide recognition concept, which assumes that the qualifications gained will be acknowledged and certificated (based on the Youth Pass) It`s an individual portfolio of the learning results which are presentable and therefore transparent. It will influence school teachers positively and improve the grades of disadvantaged pupils. On regional, national and European level the dissemination of project information will reach the target of 200 schools with more than 2000 teachers and about 100 NGOs, community media stations, school education training institutions, business owners, Experts on educational issues and school education, such as university personnel and ministries in the partner countries.
