Teaching Innovative Practices in STEM
Date du début: 1 sept. 2015, Date de fin: 31 août 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Teaching Innovative Practices in STEM (TIPS!) project is created by the association of four secondary centres, references in their own regions and from different european countries (Spain, Belgium, France and Italy). These centres have noticed in recent years a lack of motivation to study Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM ) subjects, which has resulted in an alarming decline in scientific vocations. At each school the project is led by teachers who understand the need to develop ways to inspire students towards STEM and promote the exchange of good practices through Open Educational Resources (OER) on innovative pedagogies. These teachers have been involved in various European projects individually, whose main objective was to validate and disseminate innovative pedagogies in STEM, including Inquiry Based Learning (IBL). Each school is specialized in a different field and carrying out this project transnationally will enable the exchange of the lessons learned, the generation of educational resources in several European languages (which will produce a long-term and lasting impact among teachers) and the interaction between students and teachers, promoting the learning of English and increasing the motivation to learn the foreign language. Besides pedagogies based on IBL, the centres will share their knowledge about collaborative working and multiple intelligences, they will present how to use themes of great impact on students (nanotechnology, astronomy, etc.) and success stories as science fairs or optional subjects designed in the centre. Centres associated with this project intend to achieve the following objectives: OBJECTIVE 1 (O1): Increase STEM basic skills (mathematics, science and technology) and transversal (entrepreneurship, digital and linguistic competence) of the students. With emphasis on English as a Foreign Language (EFL). (Horizontal Priority , School Education Priority) OBJECTIVE 2 (O2): Strengthening the education and training pathways of STEM teachers, providing them with means to produce a high quality teaching. (Horizontal and School Education Priority ) OBJECTIVE 3 (O3): Create and disseminate REA STEM in several European languages (Horizontal Priority ) OBJECTIVE 4 (O4): Increase the European dimension of the educational community of the partner schools, promoting the creation of a network of centers with common interests that will develop projects in the future. To achieve these objectives, the project proposes, among other activities, conducting short-term exchanges of students and teachers to attend workshops at each partner school, where teachers from the host school will show their innovative practices in STEM (O1, O2, O4). The language in the workshops will be English, follow the IBL model and promote interaction among students mixing them in groups of various nationalities (O1, O4). At the beginning of the workshop the host teachers will present a TIPS Guide (in English and other European language) to enable the participating teachers to replicate the workshop in their schools between students and teachers who don't attend. These guidelines will be available online in the project TwinSpace (O3), that will serve as repository and will be given wide dissemination in media, social networks, websites and Educational Institutions, following the dissemination plan of the project, which will generate traffic towards them and produce their reuse by STEM teachers at all levels from local / regional to European. The association aims to create a network of centres with common interests who will develop projects in the future (target O4). The training that teachers directly involved in the project will receive will improve their teaching, equipping them with new tools and ideas that will improve the skills not only of students directly involved, but also of future generations. Consequently, this is a future-oriented project in which the participating institutions are willing to further promote collaboration and the exchange of best practices at all levels of the educational community.
