Teaching English Deaf Students
Date de fin: 29 août 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The TEDS project includes 5 facilities providing services for hearing impaired pupils and students, from 4 European countries: Slovakia as the coordinator, France with two facilities (in Angers and Metz), Romania and Poland. All facilities are members of a network called HIPEN (Hearing Impaired Professional Network) which associates 13 facilities dealing with HI people from 9 countries. The project is the outcome of HIPEN meetings and discussions on teaching English to HI pupils. In all those facilities, English is taught, and professionals pointed out a great variety of approaches, a lack of opportunity for professional exchanges, and difficulties in teaching methodology and in meeting the CEFRL expectations. In this project, we will establish a working group consisting of English teachers, specialised teachers, pedagogues, communication support workers and psychologists, to develop strategy and methods of teaching English to deaf pupils and students. Our goals are: first to adapt the CEFRL A1 level to the specificity of hearing impaired students; then to build a practical toolbox for teaching and testing English with HI pupils. To do so, we will share theoretical and practical knowledge and experience. We aim at a more efficient strategy of English teaching to deaf students, to improve skills and therefore pupil’s ability in the English language.
