There is a need to target the rising number of young people in Europe leaving school with lower secondary education or less. Early school leaving deprives them of the possibility to engage in lifelong learning and leads to higher youth unemployment. Often they participate less in democratic processes & are less active citizens with the consequences of exclusion from society and a loss of economic potential for the whole of the EU. This project seeks to identify how ICT and innovative teaching based on ICT can assist in motivating/re-attracting individuals at risk-of exclusion from formal education back to school. It analyses how teachers can support the potential of ICT to bridge the gap between what these individuals experience/learn at home and in school. With a view to transfer the methods/best practices to other countries it examines the work of teacher unions in Europe & their role in supporting the adaptation of best practices to their national context. Based on 4 case studies (1 teacher education institution, 2 schools/per country) in Denmark, the Netherlands, Portugal and Azerbaijan guidelines on the use of ICT in education to motivate/re-attract students in school will be drafted at a workshop (EN/FR/EL/RU) and evaluated at a conference (EN/FR/DE/ES/RU). Reports of the events will be published in EN/FR. The guidelines ensure the sustainable impact of the project: they serve as a basis for the work in the European Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for Education. There the European representatives of national teacher unions & of national employers meet to discuss and commit to relevant education issues. The results will be published in a booklet (+poster) in EN,FR,DE,DK,NL,SK,EL,PT, ES,RU. To raise awareness and reach students/teachers postcards will be produced in 23 EU languages & RU. This project will have a big impact on the target groups of students at risk of exclusion, teachers & their unions, education employers & other education stakeholders.
