PROJET
TERMINÉ
Our team has discussed the possibility for our school to provide education in English from the youngest age groups. The reason for this is to provide a better connection with secondary education, but also to connect with the needs of students and parents. It is well known that students regularly come into contact with the English language and it would be a missed opportunity not to develop this any further. Two teachers have been appointed to investigate this matter. They follow an Early Learning Education (specialist)From the team the question arose what the level of our teachers should be on English and how we, if necessary, can increase this in an enjoyable way, or at least challenge colleagues to bring the level of their skills in English to a higher level. Research within the team also showed that teachers do not feel able to teach English. Also the objection: " English does not fit within the current curriculum". We investigated the potential to offer the Class Plus challenging English classes, without prejudging the lessons that are already being taught in the classroom. This requires knowledge and understanding of differentiation. The English and Internationalization team did research and it seems that English is applicable in many ways within the current curriculum. During the course: Methodology and Language for Primary Teachers, attention is given to short activities that will require 10 to 15 minutes of English per day. This mainly involves the reading of picture books and learning Chants, TPR and other short-term activities. We are very interested in this method of teaching. For teachers it is good to experience that English can be given in many ways, without directly using the method. We would like to develop an attitude for every teacher to use starters, poems, songs and games in English in addition to the current method. In the near future we aim to teach the students at least 20 minutes English per day in addition to the English method. So not lessons of 60 minutes in 1 time! Therefore we want to examine CLIL lessons and explore how these lessons can be integrated into our education. The teacher who specializes in the more gifted pupils and the teacher of the higher age groups that would like to delve into CLIL and TPR were chosen after consultation with staff and management. The aim of CLIL lessons is to give more depth to the English language and to the lessons of which they had prior knowledge in Dutch. They want to investigate whether students in this way have a better connection with VO and dare to choose faster for the TTO. But also what forms are well applicable in the Plus Class. It is their intention to participate in the year 2017 in the course Methodology and Language for Primary Teachers, as it meets our needs at this moment and at their Specialism in secondary education in the more gifted students.Long term objective: English teachers who offer “Early English” have followed a training "classroom English". When something else is desired, a course as needed. This is discussed with the management, Early English Specialists and team and is reviewed every year. Experiences gained during the course but also at meetings in our own country have to be shared with the team at all times. In the near future all teachers should possess a language skill on at least level B2 of the ERK for all skills (for writing level B1 is sufficient).Within the next two years Early English is included in the policy plan of the school, learn lines are drawn up based on SLO for all groups and we have made a choice for and about the use or non-use of CLIL and TPR in addition to the current method. In addition, we would like to continue to participate in K2 projects and/or Etwinning projects in order to give all pupils during their stay at our school the opportunity to have contacts with pupils from another European country, through personal or digital contact.Within two or three years we want to be known in our environment and in our foundation as the school where English is given from the youngest group and where students can actually put their English into practice by participating in European projects and have European contacts. The team will also examine the accessibility of a language portfolio and care for the purchase of materials needed for offering a rich learning environment.in cooperation with the teacher training college(PABO), we want to keep our school open for students from other (European) countries and make known our school through Etwinning for job shadowing.
