Context of the Project
This Project under Erasmus+ Programme plays the key role in making the European lifelong learning a reality. Within a context where "Delivering More for Less" has become the guiding principle of European policy-making, this Project has offered a cost-effective route to engage the adult learners of Cēsis region into the internationalization process. This Project has allowed the Partcipant to learn, develop and apply new teaching methods, as well as, refresh her professional skills in teaching Business English. The activity under the Staff Mobility training programme with ETI Malta has given its contribution to the quality in the organization of the teaching process in lifelong learning. The knowledge and skills of the Participant during the course have favoured the quality and excellency of innovation by widening international links of lifelong learning providers and, secondly, have improved foreign language teaching and learning and promoted the linguistic diversity.
Objectives
The objective of the Staff Mobility has been to acquire professional skills in the following areas: improved methodology, specifically designed teaching aids for Business English; improved quality of teaching, skills of developing appropriate assessment and certification methods based on learning outcomes; enhanced ICT uptake in teaching and learning Business English; better quality of teachers' work in favour of adult learners; enriching attitudes of greater understanding and responsiveness to social. linguistic and cultural diversity; increased opportunities for career development for the staff; increased motivation and satisfaction in teachers' daily work; enhanced the Participant's foreign languages competence and following up on EU and International Projects.
Number and profile of the Participants
One staff member of Cēsis Lifelong Learning Centre has taken part in the above activity. The Participant has beens an experienced teacher of our Business English course having been employed in the pedagogic field since 1982, and has been involved in teaching under various lifelong learning activities since 2002.
Description of activities and methodology
The two week course has been covering a comprehensive range of topics, areas and methodologies for teaching Business English. It has looked upon the language of business that the Participant needed, but also at the skills involved in becoming a more effective teacher. This Project has been designed to develop the Participants' skills not only in key areas of teaching Business English, but also in professional communication skills and intercultural communication. The course has been practical, with a focus on providing teachers with a range of new ideas to enrich their lifelong learning classes of Business English.
A number of current methodology approaches and techniques have been applied during the course. Teaching and learning has been analyzed and discussed. Hands-on workshops often using multimedia, brainstorming, problem-solving, case studies and role-play both in pair work and group work have been demonstrated. Experience activities from their learners' point of view, discussions with regard to their own pedagogical knowledge and skills, teaching methods and contexts have been taking place. The Participants' pedagogical knowledge has been encouraged through reflection and feedback given during the course. They have also been introduced to appropriate web-sites related to the further development of the Business English teaching skills and personal professional development.
Results and impact attained
The practical outcome of the Project is the newly developed Business English course curricula at Cēsis Lifelong Learning Centre (Cēsu PIC). The finalizing impact and effect of the participation in the abve ETI Malta course has reflected on the individual staff member of Cēsu PIC, on the adult students of Cēsis Lifelong Learning Centre, as well as, on the institution itself after the Staff Mobility programme. A Personal Development Action Plan of the Participant has been created.
Longer-term benefits
The mutual cooperation with the course provider, ETI Malta, has been initiated by Cēsu PIC, which might develop intp a partnership under Erasmus+ Programme. The long-term objective of this Staff Mobility activity is to achieve the recognition of the added value provided by the non-formal and informal education. Thus, the professional development of Cēsu PIC staff would contribute to the recent intentions of the EU policy regarding one of its specific priorities, Inclusive Growth.
