In the south of Italy, in spite of the famous Mediterranean diet, the high quality of products, the strong traditions related to a healthy lifestyle and environment, we are witnessing a drastic reversal of habits. Young people often make a sedentary life, ignore the food heritage, prefer fast food to fine local products; increasing the obesity, disturbs related to the diet (anorexia and abulimia), with effects on the physical, psychological and social development of many young people. The nutrition is a fundamental aspect for the person. "Tell me what you eat and I'll know who you are ..." The food influences not only the health but also the link with their own traditions, the local economy and the environment; affecting the quality of life and what surrounds us. Another central aspect is the wastage of food. Business sector analysis show how the daily wasted food could feed four times the world's population. The main objectives of the initiative are: to make young people aware of the local gastronomic heritage; combat and prevent obesity; realize a cultural exchange also through a tipical and traditional meal exchange; promote the slow food as a remedy for the environment protection; avoid food waste; promote, disseminate the knowledge of medicinal and aromatic herbs; enhance local events related to gastronomy (local festivals). "Taste the waste" is an initiative that runs in three phases: preparation; implementation; dissemination and follow-up. The preparatory phase precedes the activity and includes: project planning; selection and preparation of the groups; preliminary planning visit; practical and logistics organization of the project. The activities will last eight days and is divided into five parts: Ice breaking; intercultural kitchen; excursions; workshops; final exhibition. Participants will learn the importance of a proper nutrition, about other cultures in an informal manner, improve the languages and their capacity to interact in international contexts. In addition to the grow of skills they will be able to communicate in a multicultural context, to take part in future initiatives, eventually being promoters of projects, learn about the major programs in the fields of exchange and informal learning. The organizations will strengthen their partnerships, share best practices and future planning for new initiatives in their own contexts.
