Our institution is a school center maintained by the German Minority Council in Hungary, which puts a great emphasis on the teaching standards of the staff and the school's participation in EU projects. Nowadays there are a lot of things changing and we have to be able to give adequate answers to these changes to stay attractive for the children and their parents as well as the teachers working here. However, the adequate answers now and again have to be corrected and sometimes even in the short run. For our institution it has been a more and more obvious problem for quite some time that our students are simply unable to learn well and effectively, the acquired and learned knowledge is available for them only for a short time, the synthesis of the learned things do not happen either and that is the root of many of the arising problems. As our school is a nationality bilingual school, several subjects are taught, learned in German. Learning in a foreign language means a bigger challenge and here knowing and being able to use effective learning strategies is even more significant. In our ever and fast changing world lifelong learning, the application of effective learning strategies should be a basic skill for each and every person. 3-4 years ago our school center made a plan to create, compile a methodological curriculum which in the short term aimed that the students have better results during the schoolyear, in a bit longer term the aim was to have higher GCSE results. The school year has been started with a methodological day for years now. These methodological days have helped but have not proved to be the perfect solution, needed to be corrected, improved.
The teachers participating in the present mobility project in their job shadowing and further training courses focused on acquiring methods, methodological ideas which can be incorporated in the shcoolwork and improve the learning strategies. Mainly those methods were favoured which have a very practical approach and do not need serious financial background to carry out, and can easily be adapted to given classes, materials, needs.
Altogether 18 colleagues participated in this project. In the selecting procedure the emphasis was put on individual willingness, application which had to be met the approval of the management. Being a school center it was an important aspect that from each part of the shcool equal number of applicants should be given the possibility provided by the project.
Those teaching in the lower primary school preferred job shadowing in primary schools in Germany. When choosing the right school, they could either use the help of Thillm (a pedagogical institute in Thüringia having a professional relationship with our school) or their personal, professional network. For the teachers who teach subjects in German in both the upper-primary and the secondary schools refreshing their DFU methods, improving their linguistic and digital competencies were the preferences.
All the job shadowing and further traning mobilities were based on previously accepted and approved plans and detailed programmes. Because of the relatively big number of the participants, the timing of the mobilities had to be carefully planned. The project had three main phases. In the first one the mobilities themselves were chosen, approved, planned in accordance with the requirements, tasks of the schoolyears. In the second phase the mobilities were carried out. The last, third part was dedicated to trying out, adapting, sharing the learned methods, new ideas, applications. From the new methods we strated to put together a methodological treasure box, which is in fact a digital noticeboard, an application we learned in the training courses. What makes this application especially useful is that it can be enlarged continuously and shared widely with options of only reading the materials, or making comments or being able to modify the content too.
