This project is a mobility project for VET learners, which has been prepared by Pasinler Vacational High School and will be carried out with the partnerships of Kars Haydar Aliyev Vacational High School and Erzurum Kazım Karabekir Vacational High School. 11th and 12th grade students, studying at the departments of metal technology and motor vehicles in these schools. 20 students from each school, 60 students in total, will participate the project and they will study “gas metal arc welding” for 120 hours during three weeks in Germany, Austria and Hungary.
The aim of Trans Anatolia natural gas pipeline [TANAP] is to transport the natural gas which is produced at Şah Deniz 2 Natural Gas Field and the other fields in the southern part of Caspian Sea of Azerbaijan. With a 45 million dollar budget it’s a huge investment project.
TANAP will begin from Ardahan, the province located at the border of Georgia and Turkey, and pass through twenty provinces including Erzurum, Erzincan, Bayburt, Gümüşhane, Giresun, Sivas, Yozgat, Kırşehir, Kırıkkale, Ankara, Eskişehir, Bilecik, Kütahya, Bursa, Balıkesir, Çanakkale, Tekirdağ and Edirne. It will end in İpsala, a district of Edirne at the border of Greece and Turkey. In these provinces and districts, 7 compressor stations, 4 metering stations, 11 pigging stations, 49 block valve stations and 2 outgasing stations, which is to support the national gas transmission network, will be built.
As Energy and Natural Resources Minister Mr. Taner Yıldız reported 2 million tons of pipe will be used throughout tle line and 5000 people will be employed. As our project team has been informed by Erzurum Directorate of Turkish Employment Agency, “around 200 gas metal arc welders will be employed in the stations in Erzurum and Kars”.
Today, the industries of natural gas, oil pipeline, automotive, shipbuilding, and steel construction develop very fast and internationally. Due to the increase in new material researches, welding techniques has been developing very fast, too. Welding machines and equipments are renewing day by day.
Gas metal arc welding is an arc welding method, in which the needed heat come out by means of the arc which occurs between the used electrode and the material. It’s called like that as the welded area is protected from atmosphere gases by a kind of gas mixture. With this technique, highly fast, steady, clinker-free and qualified welds are acquired.
The quality and the duration of the education given in the Vocational High Schools’ departments of Automotive technologies and Metal Technologies doesn’t match the needed qualification to employ these students in the large companies which take part in TANAP. The educational equipments having been used in our schools aren’t premium products, either. The welding machines in the project schools are classic machines. 78% of grad students cannot be employed according to their education field.
Our aim in this project is to train participant students in the field of gas metal arc welding both theoretically and practically in Europe, to make them see labour safety on site and transfer good practices in our country.
We aim to train qualified employee for TANAP and metal industry and to contribute to the improvement of regional industry by means of youth employment.
With this project 60 students
- will be trained gas metal arc welding for 120 hours.
- will see European good practices of labour safety and labor-worker’s health on site
- will certified with Europass and ECVET.
- can be employed in TANAP and metal industrial companies.
- Will improve their general and vocational foreign language competencies as well as self improvement such as self-confidence, collaboration, team-work and adaptation to new cultures.
Our project will be carried out during a one-year time between 1st June 2015 – 31st May 2016. Each mobility activity will happen between the dates 30st January 2015 and 28 February 2016 for three weeks. Participant students will be trained in the filed of gas metal arc welding at leading vocational institutions in Europe such as Berufskolleg Ostvest - Sekundarstufe II in Germany, HTL Wien in Austria, Ganz Ábrahám Két Tanitásí Nyelvü Szakközépiskola és Szakiskola in Hungary. The students will also have labour safety education and visit giant companies including OMV in Austria, OPEL in Germany and AUDI in Hungary.
Our project has been planned according to the local, regional and national sustainability policies. With its concrete outputs, it will support regional development based on employment. Therefore, dissemination activities will be held the most effectively.
