Tallinn Model United Nations´14
Date du début: 1 sept. 2014, Date de fin: 31 mars 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The aim of the project is to advance understanding of the United Nations and contemporary international issues. In order to reach our aim, we have planned a 4 day event which contains team building activities, workshops on diplomatic etiquette, debating and a mock session on the first day, and a day long seminar in the Ministry of Foreign affairs where diplomats and decision makers educate young people about the national interests for the various countries they shall represent during the next two days of the simulation. In order to give the participants a chance to interact with the decision makers, an informal dinner is planned after the seminar. The simulation is planned to focus mainly on human rights issues (Human Rights Council) and right to protect (Security Council). The seminar is in the form of an open lecture and will be advertised to the public to take part in order to spark dialogue in the society. The simulation and the discussions will be largely focused on the UN's role in human rights and the functioning of the Human Rights Council and the Security Council. These two bodies will be discussed and simulated during the conference. The informative open lectures by decision makers and the simulation of the United Nations Human Rights and Security Councils will positively affect the lives of participants and inform them of problems related to globalization and global citizenship through non-formal educational experiences that emphasizes collaboration and cooperative conflict resolution. During the simulation of the UN Security Council and Human Rights Council the participants role-play as diplomats representing a nation assigned to them by the organisers. These nations will be present in the United Nations Human Rights Council and when adopting the resolution, also the General Assembly. The participants must research their country's position, act as diplomats, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, consult, and then develop solutions to the crisis scenario that will pose a current international issue. To solve this crisis the delegates have to write a resolution and vote on it and find a solution. In order to understand the position of their representative country better, the organisers will help to organise meetings in the corresponding embassies of their designated country which they have to act as in the course of the simulation. In case the necessary embassy is not present in Estonia, such as Pakistan, this will be substituted with the second best trainer/institution. During a conference, participants must employ a variety of communication and critical thinking skills which the preparatory sessions will develop. This is in order help the delegates represent the correct policies of their country. These skills include public speaking, group communication, research, policy analysis, active listening, negotiating, conflict resolution, note taking, and technical writing. In total, 30 students will participate in the simulation. In addition to that, we have a consulting secretariat, advising the TMUN team in organising the simulation. The duration of Tallinn Model United Nations'14 (TMUN'14) itself will be 4 days and it will take place in Tallinn. As mentioned above, before the simulation, participants are highly recommended to visit the embassies of the countries they represent. After the event, we have planned evaluation and training our team to ensure the contingency of annual TMUN events that bring global awareness and also create a platform for students and other citizens to interact with decision makers.
