The Istituto Comprensivo di Faedis is a State Institute which commenced in 2000, located in the province of Udine, in a rural area with three different municipalities (Attimis, Faedis e Povoletto). It is attended by pupils from 3-14 years of age and consists of three pre-primary schools, three primary schools and two lower secondary schools. The Istituto Comprensivo has a varied experience in regional and national projects and strongly wishes to develop a European dimension, primarily through languages. The aim of this mobility project is predominantly to support the professional development of school staff engaged in both teaching and non teaching roles, in order to:- enhance linguistic and communication skills of school staff;- contribute to develop methodological skills of teaching staff;- implement teaching through CLIL in the whole Istituto in a vertical process, from pre-primary to lower secondary school;- modernize and internationalize the school by supporting European oriented activities. The in-training staff consists of one administrative employee and eight teachers (2 pre-primary teachers, 3 primary teachers and 3 lower secondary school teachers), representative of all the different school levels of the Istituto. This two-year project (from 1st September 2016 to 31st August 2018) is divided into the following five steps:1. Linguistic and communicative training (1st year project): a 30-hour linguistic preparatory course run by a specialized English mother-tongue teacher to take place at the Istituto, in preparation for subject teachers and non-teaching staff to take the B1 level of Cambridge English exam.2. Teaching and methodological training (1st year): a workshop held in autumn 2016 in collaboration with an eTwinning Friuli Venezia-Giulia Ambassador at the Istituto to show the didactic and training potentials of the platform. This will be used by project teachers in school year 2016-17 to enroll in online learning events relevant to the project.3 Structured training courses in the United Kingdom lasting one/two weeks (2nd year): an intensive language course for the administrative employee and eight language and methodology courses based on CLIL for the teachers specific to both the school level at which they teach and the subject.4. One-week job shadowing and observation following the completing of training courses abroad (2nd year) at the Gimnazjum w Marklowicach in Marklowice, Poland (for a secondary school teacher) and at the Zakladni skola a Materska skola Klic s.r.o. in Ceska Lipa, Czech Republic (for a primary teacher and a secondary school teacher). The purposes and activities of the agreed programs are:- job shadowing English lessons based on CLIL;- knowledge of the plan to implement CLIL from pre-primary to lower secondary school at the Czech school;- exchange of information about European projects, assistantship, policy of internationalization, development of future collaborations with the two partner schools;- school education and evaluation systems;- cultural visits and farewell events.5. Dissemination of skills and outcomes within and outside the Istituto to keep the project relevant and interesting. The new teaching methods based on CLIL will be integrated into everyday activities to benefit the pupils of the Istituto; the project participants will share the best practice and knowledge/skills acquired during the mobility activities with their colleagues in the Istituto through workshops and courses to create a community of practice open to professional development and lifelong learning. The aim is that of implementing the teaching of English at pre-primary school, increase CLIL lessons at primary and secondary school (an expected 50% more than the previous year) in the Istituto in school year 2017-18. New training opportunities will be sought through the Internet, INDIRE, eTwinning, Erasmus + and School Education Gateway. The Istituto will continue collaborating with the partner schools in order to set up a KA2 project. Methods and channels of dissemination will be the web site and the “Sustainability and Social Report” of the Istituto, articles in local newspapers and educational magazines, participation in regional or national events for teachers promoted by local school networks, also the USR (Ufficio Scolastico Regionale) and teachers' associations in order to reach the greatest number of teachers and trainers. The school wants to implement an eLearning platform to benefith both teachers and pupils. Photos and teaching materials provided by the participants in the mobilities will be collected in an e-book called “CLIL 3-14: a CLIL Pathway from Pre-Primary to Lower Secondary School” which will be available on the school web site where further materials of future training events will also be added. Best practice learnt abroad will be also delivered by offering job shadowing opportunities to schools across Europe which want to apply for their own KA1 funding.
