Date du début: 1 juin 2015, Date de fin: 31 mai 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The co-operation between the Suzuki schools of Turku and Marseille started in 2014 when the director of The Suzuki School of Turku visited Marseille. The Suzuki School of Turku was established in 2009 and is a private musical institute providing basic education in the arts. The Suzuki School of Marseille also is a private musical institute and was established in 1984. Both schools employ the international Suzuki method as a teaching method which is considered as natural and child-centered way of learning music. With the Suzuki method one may start taking instrument lessons starting from the age of three together with one's parents. In the lessons, are emphasized individuality and the joy of playing music. The planned teacher exchanges between the Suzuki schools shall take place within two years. The participants of the exchanges are the directors of the Suzuki schools, who also work as piano teachers in the schools. The exchange project of the Suzuki School of Turku includes teaching assignments, job shadowing and structured courses. During teaching assignments, the Finnish teacher shall give her own instrument lessons with the French pupils in french and shall introduce them to finnish music. During job shadowing, the teacher will get to know how the Suzuki method is applied in the partner country and what are the general operating procedures of the partner school (business model, activity model, functional model etc.). The structured courses shall include Suzuki teacher training aiming at obtaining the next Suzuki level. The primary goal of the partnership is to develop the Suzuki method on international level as well as to create permanent bonds between the french and finnish Suzuki schools. One of the goals is also to expand the professional and linguistic skills of the teachers, to improve entrepreneurship and leadership skills, to improve even further the overall quality of teaching and to bring some new point of views into the curriculum. Another goal is to the European identity of the pupils and to increase the knowledge of the teachers and pupils about the partner country musical traditions and culture on general level. One target is also to gather up a repertoire for the french theme year 2015-2016 of the Suzuki School of Turku. Visibility for the project and the gained results will be achieved by creating a Facebook page dedicated to this specific exchange project. The local will be notified of the exchange of teachers and an article on the subject shall be published in the publication of Finland's Suzuki Association. The outcome of exchange shall also be discussed in the training seminars organized by Finland's Suzuki Association. Information on the subject inside the Suzuki School of Turku shall be forwarded during performance appraisal discussions. In the Suzuki method, we believe that a child is son of his own environment. Thanks to the planned partnership, the pupils of the schools will grow in an international environment and, as a result, grow into international and open minded youth and adults that will build permanent ties to the partner country and that respect themselves and their surroundings. As a benefit from the planned cooperation, the pupils and teachers will activate themselves on international level and will participate more readily to international Suzuki -camps and courses. This project will also encourage other Suzuki schools and teachers to become more internationally active. The Suzuki School of Turku will organize in its school year 2015-2016 the year of french music for its early childhood education groups and pupils in the basic education in the arts. In the future, the Suzuki schools of Marseille and Turku will continue their partnership and organize international concerts in France and Finland.
