SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT IN THE BARENTS REGION (STBR) (STBR )

General objectives for STBR project are to strengthen transport planning cooperation in the Barents Region; increase the common understanding of transport problems in the region; help decision makers, planners, authorities and companies to see the region as a single transport area and to promote sustainable development in the region.These goals will be achieved by improving region-wide transport infrastructure and services, by eliminating the effects of borders and lacking infrastructure,y treating region as a single transport area and by encouraging the authorities to plan the regions transport infrastructure and services jointly. Achievements: Two transport flow studies are completed, one study concerns passenger flows in the Barents region and the other concerns freight flows in the Barents region. Two pre-studies are completed, one pre-study concerns regional aviation in the Barents region and the other concerns logistic systems in the Barents region. A sub project, Evaluation methods of cross border transport projects, has been completed.Two extensive sub projects, Road transport corridors in the Barents region and Barents Railroad Network, have been completed.Five study reports concerning Road Transport Corridors in the Barents region are completed, International Tourism Roads in the Barents region, Heavy Traffic: Traffic Safety and Dangerous Goods, Barents Terminal Study and Future Trends.One sub project, Barents Regional Aviation, has been completed.Two limited projects concerning tourism roads have been completed; Pre-study - Development programme for tourism along the Blue Highway and the Barents Road.A limited study concerning Developing the Logistics Practices in the Barents Region Transport and Logistics Service Providers are completed.A pre-study concerning a Transportation Flow Model for the Barents region is completed. Nine STBR reports have been printed and delivered to personnel and decision makers, responsible for regional planning in the Nordic countries and Russia.
