Sustainable MANAGEment and operation of major regenerated sites developed into attractive destinations (MANAGE+)
Date du début: 17 avr. 2008, Date de fin: 30 déc. 2014 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The MANAGE+ project deals with the (post investment) management of regenerated cultural & industrial heritage areas developed into attractive destinations. The aim is to achieve sustainable management and operation of these areas which take advantage of their potential benefits. All project partners (from regions Ruhr and Rhine-Neckar [DE]. Manchester-Liverpool [UK]. West Flanders [BE] and Utrecht/ New Dutch Waterline/ 5 provinces [NL]) have implemented or are implementing ambitious regeneration projects and have managerial experience in this field. However. to prepare for the next stage - exploitation and operation - new models for multi-stakeholder organisation structures and dynamic & strategic management are urgently needed. Such models are essential to overcome frequent current shortcomings: ? Operation of regenerated areas depends on public budgets which may cover the cost of maintenance. but dont allow active & professional area management ? The readiness of citizen groups and of private businesses to contribute to operation is often not used ? A focus on physical regeneration neglects potentials for job creation after regeneration ? Stakeholders often compete instead of cooperate ? A too local view neglects potentials from regionally coordinated operation. The partners will jointly develop and implement models for professional planning and management of the operations phase and for mobilising economic and social benefits. without creating additional financial and managerial burdens on local authorities. Sound management models & experience are not available across NWE. MANAGE+ seeks to induce the application of its models in other regions. this becoming the basis for a sustained NWE-wide exchange of experience. Achievements: Visitor and management centre in Germersheim (Germany): Since the opening of the visitor center, the site gained much attention of locals and tourists who use it as information point. The Weißenburger Tor is not only one of the most attractive photo subjects in town, a high number of events organised by various stakeholders started there since the opening. Steadily increasing numbers of visitors, guests and booking numbers for all kinds of events and attractions managed at the site generate more income for the Germersheim. Additionally, more and more couples get married at the site. Moreover, people benefit from training sessions and seminars hold in the multifunctional room. Visitor and management centre at Landscape Park Hoheward (Germany): The creation of the Management Centre Hoheward is adding value to the touristic development of the site (e.g. guided tours, incentives, public events). The centre not only serves as contact point for tourists but also facilitates weddings, excursions, party and sport events. This gives it an additional meaning as public space for social activities and contributes to a positive identification of inhabitants with their region. Considering the structural changes the Ruhr region was witnessing during the last decades this is a crucial step towards a sustainable regional development with an increasing quality of life. Foundation Liniebreed Ondernemen (the Netherlands): Various private actors are running the forts of the former military defence line, New Dutch Waterline. The foundation stimulates and facilitates cooperation between the various forts belonging to the New Dutch Waterline and thereby leads to synergy effects through joint activities in the fields of marketing and promotion, organisation of events, purchasing common goods, exchange of knowledge, fundraising and networking. Thereby the foundation fosters the touristic development of the region.
