Objectif général :Le projet SETARMS a pour objectif de permettre aux partenaires du projet de travailler ensemble au développement économique des ports locaux de la Manche, en développant des pratiques durables de gestion des sédiments marins, en tenant compte à la fois des aspects techniques, économiques, environnementaux, sociaux et réglementaires. En effet, les opérations de dragage sont confrontées à des difficultés dordre juridique, financier, environnemental et social. La gestion des dépôts sédimentaires devient donc une préoccupation majeure des autorités portuaires, des collectivités locales et des industriels.Principales actions :- Etat des lieux des méthodes de dragage actuelles, des types de sédiments, des sites dimmersion et de la réglementation en Grande-Bretagne et en France.- Caractérisation des sédiments : revue de la littérature mondiale sur le dépôt en mer ou sur terre des sédiments dragués et des stratégies de valorisation possibles pour certains matériaux dragués et déchets miniers aux caractéristiques similaires ; installation et calibrage de léquipement analytique. - Etudes de cimentation et stabilisation : revue des techniques de stabilisation et de cimentation, mise en place de léquipement de formation, dexpériences électrocinétiques sur la mobilité des contaminants etc.----------------Main objective :The SETARMS project aims to encourage its partners to work jointly for the economic development of Channel Sea ports, by developing sustainable management practices for marine sediment, taking into account technical parameters but also considering economic, environmental, social and regulatory aspects. Indeed, these dredging activities are faced to difficulties of legal, financial, environmental and social nature. That is why sediment management is becoming a major issue for port authorities, local authorities and industry. Main actions :- Overview of the current dredging methods, the types of sediments, immersion sites and regulation in GB and France- Literature review of world-wide experience concerning terrestrial and sea disposal of dredged sediments, review of potential re-use strategies for certain dredged materials and mine waste of similar characteristics, installation and calibration of analytical equipment, - Review of stabilisation and cementation techniques, equipment installation and training, electrokinetic experimentation on contaminant mobility etc. Achievements: In the Channel area, dredging activities are essential to maintain safe harbour access for ships, but they generate significant amounts of dredged sediments which require specific treatment. The SETARMS project has paved the way for the potential re-use of sediments to build roads. Cooperation between port authorities has enabled sampling operations in several harbours. French and UK universities were also involved as project partners: thanks to the analysis tools complementing each other, they were able to classify the sampled sediments according to their physical, chemical and geotechnical characteristics, and according to technical and economical criteria. 4 different types of sediments have been identified and tested - in partnership with an industrial company - to build part of a road on a pilot site. Ongoing environmental monitoring will help identify which sediment is best suited to be re-used for roads: all partners remain therefore committed to continue their research and field tests.
