Sustainable Development - what is it about?

The topic of "sustainable development" is very relevant today. The project aims was to develop a common European awareness on the importance of sustainable behavior and to make clear the relationship between economical , social and environmental levels . The project has shown that such behavior may benefit many people in Europe . It has encouraged the youngsters to change their own lifestyle and in this way was taken the first step in changing the lifestyle in Europe. There were 5 main objectives of the project: 1. Discussing the issue of "sustainability " at the global level . Raising awareness about the interrelationships that exist in the topic of sustainable development and environmental issues between the social, political and economic dimensions. 2. Creating awareness of environmental and sustainable behavior. 3. Discovering individual course of action . 4. Developing our own creativity with the help of workshops, such as Dancing , Music, Theatre, Street Art , Video and Photo. 5. Broadcasting the results of the meeting among the young people in Germany, Estonia, Hungary and Turkey, in order to motivate them to take active action in the course of sustainable development. It was a matter of a global problem, that had to be dealt with at least on European level, If we want to be fair about the life chances of younger generations, we had to face this problem in the EU countries and neighboring partner countries as well. Therefore, the involvement of partner countries is of particular importance for this project. There were 40 participants involved in the project, who were between 15 and 21 years old. They were mainly students from youth organizations in Turkey, Germany, Estonia and Hungary. Some of them have been active in their organizations, but many took part in such a project for the first time .Some of them also had immigrant backgrounds or were socially disadvantaged. The main activities of the project were workshops that promote social awareness through creative methods, such as social theater, video, etc. In addition, took place public presentations of the participants and active exchange of information. There was an excursion day , in which participants were able to visit local organizations that deal with the topic of "Sustainable Development". During the project, were used different methods of non-formal learning such as -: active exchange of experience , simulation games, team-building activities , public presentations and interactive learning. In order to perform the monitoring of the learning process, every day was made a reflection round: in that way we could learn immediately how the participants found the project , received their ideas and comments on the program. The leaders’ team has met every day and discussed the progress and as well the possible improvements.
