Sustainable development in hairdressing

Sustainable development in hairdressing is a project funded by EU
program Leonardo da Vinci including partners from all Nordic
countries. The goal has been to develop a more sustainable hairdressing via vocational education.Main goals for the project has been to meet the demands in the hairdressing field by
developing a common international education program for environment-friendly hair care that built on existing educational
concepts in Finland, Denmark and Sweden and innovative a way that encourages student mobility and cooperation between VET-providers and the professionals in the business. The cooperation between VET professionals will be strengthened by together developing the content and criteria for a new education program. The project consortium consists of a variety of VET-providers and SME:s from Finland, Sweden and Denmark. Some key-experts from outside the consortium have been involved from the very beginning and they will provide their services for the benefit of the project. The demand for environment-friendly hair care is expanding rapidly
because of awareness of the health-hazards that for example hair care products impose on both hairstylists and consumers. Suitable
education in sustainable development and environment-friendly hair care is necessary in order for these demands to be met and for
hairdressers to be able to continue their career. As a result of the project we have created a international education
program for environment-friendly hair care that provides a new
opportunity for traditional hairdressers that have been forced to stop working because of allergies and an alternative for those who are
environmentally aware and wish to study hair care. The project analyzes the current strengths in the different countries in the profession, join them together and together make a education model available to all. The model is made in the form of ECVET.Another product as a result of the project is a iBook. A book and tool for hairdressing teachers in upper secondary vocational education. The book consist of vocational requirements, learning outcomes, criteria together with study material and tasks for students.
