"Follow the guide" is a project aimed at 24 sixth-year students in technical education, following the training "Reception and travel agent”, Economy agent. This project will have a duration of two years. The Belgian schools concerned are “l'Académie provinciale des métiers” in Mons (the intermediate host partner is the M.E.P Euro projects in Granada) and “l'IPES Léon Hurez” in la Louvière, Hainaut (the intermediate host partner is Paragon in Malta). Internship will have a duration of 3 weeks in full immersion in Spanish or in English. The training places will be tourist offices, travel agencies, museums, information points and hotels.The students have to know basic English (technical language and common professional conversation) as well as practice another foreign language (like Spanish). This type of employment supposes an acute sense of communication. The capacity to look for information, to synthesize and present it, seems essential as well as the knowledge of computing tools appropriate to the training.Along the years both schools have notices that the tourist sector is mainly chosen because of the presence of foreign language courses in the curriculum: English, Dutch, German or Spanish, but it is difficult to meet the program demand as to practicing and mastering another language. Indeed, the students following this training meet enormous difficulties finding a three-week internship in their city, as companies prefer to take High School students for a three-month internship. According to them it is more interesting regarding investment and results. Students are for a large part obliged to look for an internship outside of their city or to choose a company which does not meet qualification requirements. Mastering a foreign language is not an easy job!In this little promising context as to the acquisition of skills aimed at in the training profile, the project is targeting the following results: the practice of a foreign language (Spanish, English); bringing the Belgian tourism companies to be more interested in secondary school students, not only regarding their internship but also concerning employment; faster student social and professional insertion with better qualifications; allowing the training and the school to benefit from a better image in the professional sector; integrating European mobility into school projects to give the training a European dimension; establishing links between sending and host partners and the CCGPE; leading other schools to join the consortium during the 2018 call for applications to increase its scope.The internship will favor self-assessment, the development of the students’ social capital, their autonomy and their opening to another culture. Linguistic preparation will be provided by both sending and host partners. Cultural preparation will be taken care of history and geography teachers. The CPMS (medico-psycho-social center) will help the participants to better prepare psychologically for being far away from home, for the unknown and for group life.The realization of the internship itself will benefit from the presence of coaches sent by the sending partners, who will make the connection between trainees and host partners. They will be responsible for internship evaluation, the learning outcomes (on the basis of the grid of competences drafted by the whole consortium) as well as the integration of the results in the Belgian program of every beneficiary.Extending knowledge and educational practices, developing the quality of education by innovation and creativity will allow the students to find motivation in their learning. The discovery of educational practices applied in other education systems and exchanges between teachers of partner countries will favor the emergence of a European educational space.What all members of the Consortium are aiming for, is a sustainable collaboration between both Belgian and foreign partners.
