Since across Europe, dialogue platforms have emerged in an unplanned-uneven manner across many different sectors, this Project will help to systematise the role of consultative bodies in the area of integration in the participating countries of the Baltic Sea region. Drawing on the experience outlined first edition of the Handbook on Integration (http://ec.europa.eu/ewsi/en/resources/detail.cfm?ID_ITEMS=1212) on the role of consultative bodies in enhancing integration and the chapter of dialogue platforms in the Third edition of the Handbook on Integration (http://ec.europa.eu/ewsi/en/resources/detail.cfm?ID_ITEMS=12892), the aim of this Project would be to elaborate further the enabling factors that can enhance the success of dialogue platforms (local, regional, national). The goal is to enhance the role of consultative bodies and the representation of civil society organisations in defining, implementing and evaluating immigrants' integration policies. In addition to facilitating factors the activities will also focus on the analysis of the intended outcomes and impact of different kinds of dialogue platforms. Dialogue platforms may occur at the local, regional, or national level, but they may also occur across national borders between civil society actors in one European country or other European countries. The latter has become increasingly pertinent for societal integration in a world of globalised sensitivities, travel, and communication. The 1st phase of the Project is to map the existing types and forms of dialogue platforms in partner countries (WP1); the analysis will be synthesise of findings of previous research and face-to face interviews with dialogue platform stakeholders. Thereafter, a series of dialogue events will be held in 3 countries (WP2). The project will conclude with a series of training seminars focusing on results ensuing from the developed Guidelines (WP3). The novelty of this project is that the while there are several good general overviews of the preconditions for establishing successful dialogue platforms there is a need for a more specific and detailed analysis of advantages and disadvantages and success factors of different types of dialogue platforms on integration. The trainings will take place in all participating countries. The seminars will be open for non-project related partners and stakeholders as well. This will equip the future dialogue organisers with necessary and useful skills for establishing successful dialogue platforms on integration. The general outcome of the project is to have increased role of consultative bodies and representation of civil society in integration policy of third country nationals. The estimated number of direct beneficiaries is 300 persons. Achievements: The goal of the SIDP project was to strengthen the use of common spaces and activities in which immigrants (including third-country nationals) interact with the host societies of countries in the Baltic Sea region. The best medium for such meaningful action is through the dialogue platforms, which in turn enhance the role of consultative bodies and the representation of civil society organisations in defining, implementing and evaluating the integration policies concerning immigrants. The dialogue events that took place in Estonia, Sweden and Latvia during the project enabled the participants to establish contacts and build a network in the Baltic Sea region, allowing them to have a more effective impact in participating in discussions on the integration of immigrants through initiating further joint projects, both in the Baltic Sea region and at European level.
