Storytelling @ Teaching Model (S@TM)- A Contribution to Science Teachers Professional Development
Date du début: 1 oct. 2011,

With this project we intend to contribute to the Professional Development of secondary school science teachers and advisors and through them to the improvement of the quality of Science Education at the European and possibly at international level and to encourage young boys and girls to make their careers in science. The content of our project is founded on basic concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Biology usually taught at the 3rd grade of secondary school. The outputs are: a) the development of modules (a course) based on our Storytelling Teaching Model (STM), dealing with 18 interesting short science stories from History of Science (HOS), some of them contain key ideas of Nature of Science (NOS), the later will be used for tackling misconceptions of NOS. All stories properly modified will be narrated in the classrooms, incorporated with experimental procedures, computer simulations etc, which develop the interest for learning science, cooperative learning skills, by applying learner centred teaching and argumentation in socio-constructivist and socio-cultural environments, b) train science teachers and advisors in the art of narration so they will become able to narrate stories in their classrooms, place videos on the training in the art of narration on Projects website c) implement the module in 3rd year secondary school students, narrating and video recording it to check if students could comprehend the concepts in the stories d) evaluation results of the training module e) create an in-service science advisors and teachers training Resource Kit based on the STM to be used in the type of digital material enriched with innovative teaching strategies (in English) and upload this on an interactive website offering wiki facilities, this e-material (translated in Greek, German, Polish and French) will be uploaded on partners’ websites for use in the interactive electronic board and e) research papers for national and international journals and conferences.
