Stir It Up! Youth Participation and Urban Areas

Stir it Up! is an intense 6 days training course, based in Rome, aiming at raising awareness and skills of 16 youth workers and leaders from 8 EU countries (IT, FR, SK, CZ, HU, ES, DE, TK). The applicant, Lunaria, will be the host of the training, and will coordinate the involved actors. The TC, is about how to organize youth local initiatives aimed at improving the life quality of the local communities, and how to make these more visible and connected with other European experiences. Being active in urban areas and provide new opportunities for a sustainable growth of the whole community represent strong learning and empowerment experiencies, both for individuals and groups. Youth participation is a concrete chance to ensure the social cohesion and to promote democratic life. Youth leaders and social entrepreneurs, volunteers or professionals, may lead efficiently youth groups to socially useful actions initiatives in favour of youth participation, thus improving the relationships among citizens and Institutions. Establishing European contacts between those active in urban areas and sharing practices will strengthen the sense of belonging to European Union. The planned project activities are the following: research and mapping of good practices, workshops and training on how to involve and activate youth, how to manage initiatives that may bring positive impact on beneficiaries and on local communities, training on how to exploit ICT and participatory web. Youth workers need a wide range of skills to be ready to tackle such social dynamics. The TC will be implemented with active methodologies, based on the principles of the non formal education, which promotes the active learning and the ongoing interaction among trainees, trainers and facilitators. Workshops and visits will ease the sharing of skills and experiences and will make the participants ready to act in concrete situations.
