PROJET
TERMINÉ
Within the frame of the Structured Dialogue, the proposed project aims to identify phenomena that exclude part of the young population from participating in democratic life, recording the root of the problem and proposing ways and policies for the effective inclusion of such groups in the decision making processes and social life in general, combating at the same time, phenomena such as hate speech, racism and intolerance that marginalise young people and lead to adverse consequencesWe wish to initiate an open dialogue with young people between 16-30 years old, youth experts and policy makers in an effort to draft and formulate a Manual of positions and tangible recommendations and proposals under the title Steps Towards a More Inclusive Society in order to promote the ideals of inclusiveness, cooperation and anti-discrimination by enhancing awareness of the other. The 100 participants (young participants and decision makers) that will be involved in the project include groups of young people from different parts of Cyprus representing Municipal Youth Councils (Strovolos, Aglantzia, Latsia) and youth committees (Derynia) and informal youth groups (Nicosia), as well as experts on issues relating to youth policies, human rights and the issues relating to the project (i.e. phenomena of discrimination, racism and hate speech). The young participants selected to join the project have a special role to play in their communities as regards to youth policy making and implementation and their contribution to youth policy making may be substantial. Special measures will be taken to ensure gender balance in the group activitiesThe proposed project will be implemented between June and October 2016. Apart from the main activities of the project (Youth Meetings and Conference) the initial and final period of the project's overall duration will be used for preparatory meetings, evaluation sessions and drafting the Manual on recommendations and proposals by participants during the youth meetings. The working methods to be employed throughout the project are diverse and include seminars, expert lectures, video presentations, round-table discussions, workshops, games, power point presentations, consultations, conference and evaluation meetings. These comprise participatory forms of action whose methodological tools will be used by the young participants so as to creatively develop their learning skills and competences. This learning process will contribute to their social and personal development; they will receive guidance from experts and reach their own conclusions through critical thinking. The expected result will be for participants to acquire as much knowledge on the issue at hand and contribute, to the best of their ability, to the submission of proposals and recommendations on how to ensure opportunities for the active participation of all young people in democratic life and decision making processes by combating phenomena of discrimination, racism and hate speech against population groups on account of race, religion, social or other background. The manual produced will express the voice of the youth on the issues at hand as well as their practical recommendations which, if promoted by youth policy makers and adopted, they will reflect the true needs of the youth as they derive from them and are implemented for them.Follow up activities will exploit further the achievements of the project and will develop further other aspects of the themes undertaken in the project. Such actions could involve exchanges with organisations from abroad so as to take advantage of the experience and best practices implemented in other countries on issues tackled by the project.
