Step for Europe
Date du début: 1 août 2014, Date de fin: 1 déc. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The EVS project "Step for Europe" involves a volunteer from Germany and is the result of cooperation between the NGOs JuSeV/Fürstenwalde, Germany and CEI/Sumy, Ukraine. Project activities will take place in the city of Sumy over a period of 7 months (01/09/2014-31/03/2015). The primary objective is the exchange of information and experience between 2 different European cultures: German and Ukrainian. By joining European Volunteers from 6 countries with Sumy Regional Youth Euroclubs, we hope to continue developing solidarity and cross border relationships between Ukrainian youth and their European neighbours. Together they will learn to celebrate the broad diversity that exists in Europe, and help to strengthen the way to a larger, more encompassing European Union. Planned activities: participating in and leading Euroclubs involving local school youth focused on promoting European values, active citizenship, civic responsibility, community service, teaching leadership skills to youth and providing them with knowledge about EU, European integration, what it means to be European citizen; promotion of cultural diversity and breaking stereotypes about the home country of the volunteer in the local community; promotion of voluntary service among local youth; strengthening the Sumy Network of Euroclubs. Planned Methods: leading discussion groups and intercultural workshops; workshops on EU issues, project design, management and implementation; facilitating shared information and collaboration between organizations; conducting native language clubs; development of future EVS opportunities for Ukrainian youth. Current Euroclub activities include many intercultural projects. Intercultural learning is one of the big draws for youth to these Euroclubs. Often though these intercultural projects and exchanges come only from information that the youth and teachers are able to find in books or on the Internet. Working with youth volunteers will provide a whole new look into intercultural exchanges, a sense of tolerance and understanding of diversity. Cooperating with other EVS volunteers and volunteers from the USA in work with youth and local community, volunteers will be encouraged to use this cooperation for prevention and combatting prejudice, racism and exclusion. Since political debates could be challenging, a cultural theme could be envisaged, perhaps evoking the right to being different and not discriminated upon, be it a physical, intellectual or cultural difference, because being different can make us realise a common past, history and can only bring us together as a Union of cultures and new ideas to create an enlarged EU. Part of this project has been thought and written before the recent clashes and riots in Ukraine, and considering the recent facts, both parties strongly believe of its importance in order to strengthen relations between Europe and Ukraine.
