Project background
This project focuses on the mobilities of both participants and staff of the STC -Group in Rotterdam. We are the largest and most specialized school in Europe in the field of shipping, transport and logistics and provide worldwide education at high school, vocational, higher education and master level. We are a recognized and internationally oriented school highly focused on the on practical training , which is the reason we are strongly connected to the professiosal context of the businnes and enteptrises we provide employees for. The student Internships are an integral part of their training and are based on formative and summative assignments carried out and guided by business mentors on the spot. Staff will expand and/or deepen their personal and professional skills in European companies relevant for the discipline/topics they teach in.
Objectives
1 ) To expand/propagate the international nature of the industries in which we educate
2 ) Improving the quality of learning and teaching / expertise / acquire subject-specific and generic competences :
Within the rapidly changing sectors in which we educate , it is important for teachers and students to stay up to date about the newest innovations, technologies and changing job contents
3 ) Expanding the network of STC Group overalls and students /employees of STC in particular :
The contacts gained through a period abroad increase the network of students and teachers , which they will benefit from personal and professional.
4 ) The huge growth that the STC -Group is going through , especially the Shipping and Transport College , causes an increasing need for Internships
Number of and type of participants
Project is applied for AANTAL
Students: The students participate in the vocational courses BOL Port Logistics Manager , Manager Transport & Logistics , Aviation Services, Aviation officer, Aviation Logistics or Naval architect/engineer.
Staff: will be working in different sectors and departments of STC within the VET educational programmes. Some departments within STC support other educational programmes (secundary education, HBO, Master) as well.
Teachers in this project will always be working within the VET in the programmes of the Maritime sector, Ship and Yacht building, Transport & Logistics and Aviation services.
Activities
Students: are linguistically and culturally well prepared and supported in all processes prior to the Internship . During the Internship they will execute predetermined excercises integrated into the curriculum, focused on the acquisition of subject-specific competencies and supervised / evaluated by the company mentor .
Staff: create in advance personal and professional learning goals which they will use during their internship to guide their activities . The new knowledge is directly converted into teaching materials / implemented in the curriculum , and shared with direct - and professional colleagues .
Project Method
Students: Within the PDCA cycle, a specially established project team , consisting of an Intersnhip coordinator , Internship teachers and the directors of the training departments where the internships will take place are concerned with the implementation , monitoring and evaluation of the internships. Roles and responsibilities are clear .
Staff: Within the PDCA cycle the stafmember , head of sector/department and project manager will plan, evaluate and disseminate the internship.
Expected results and impacts
Students: The personal skills and abilities , general and expert level of participants increase with respect to the competencies they are supposed to have at this point in their training . They gain independence, self-direction, responsibility and perseverance . They also gain an understanding of and respect for other cultures and customs , and culturally appropriate behavior.Their chances on the labor market are increasing highly.
Staff: Increase of subject-specific knowledge , personal skills , understanding and respect for other cultures and customs , language skills and networks maintain and submit .
Our institution will have a wider international network and the quality of our education , as well as the connection with the business will increase. Staff and students will be professionally stronger and more motivated .
Long- term results
The overall quality of our education , the connection with practice and developing innovations will increase.
The international position and relevance of the STC -Group will increase.
