Starke Schüler für ein friedliches Europa - Nein zu Mobbing und Rassismus
Date du début: 1 sept. 2015, Date de fin: 31 août 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

This project deals with the problem of bullying at all kinds of schools which today also occurs in the form of cyber-bullying in digital social networks, and aims at providing information about and prevention of school failure and drop out on the one, and racism and xenophobia on the other hand, a challenge of both actual and historical dimensions that must be met if peace and democracy shall prevail. All three participating schools know the problem of bullying and the teachers’ call for solutions respectively tools to help recognizing symptoms in the first place. The often heed- and careless usage of social media has to be addressed. School drop outs are a phenomenon of societal proportions and the fact that bullying stands as an important cause since it creates school-aversion and angst and may eventually lead to school failure, requires further dedication to close information gaps among staff and students alike. Furthermore the project involves a steady and sustainable process of instructing experts, e.g. in mediation. It intends to have the participating partner groups trained by mutually sitting in on respectively attending classes in foreign languages. Of at least equal importance we consider to have students recognize the link between bullying, xenophobia and racism and to study recent incidents on a regional, national and international scale; i.e. European cases and abroad. Thus, education-wise, the project provides an important contribution to the formation of active, responsible European citizens. Especially the cooperation in international teams (eight students and two colleagues from each school) and the close encounter with the neighboring countries in guest families (putting on and swapping the roles of visitor/host) helps reach the aforementioned aim, namely that everyone involved (parents, teachers and students) may feel as a European citizen. Flexibility, mobility and multi-language use are central competences and pivotal for the students future success in a global work environment. These experiences are made visible on the outside when our project’s participating students receive the Youth Pass. The project encompasses four consecutive one-week work meetings in all three places. In between spaces are marked by Etwinning communication as well as post-meeting analysis and pre-meeting preparation. These meetings build on each other and are based on key competences of the respective participants. Starting point for the first meeting in France is bullying as a cause for school failure on a personal level as well as the socio-political implications of the problem. Our French colleagues have gained significant knowledge in the use of Etwinning during recent projects and provide the necessary modern media for thorough research on the topic. Moreover the at first surprising proximity between bullying and racism can be shown by the recent incidents that drew international reactions. Material result of the first meeting will be Artmails, i.e. creative postcards and/or letters to be sent about the topic. The second meeting has an experiential education approach where together with asylum seeking youths in Xanten stories about xenophobia are created digitally and published online. The third meeting is based on an existing cooperation with the University of Eindhoven and will result in a mobile photo campaign following FIFA’s example “No to Racism” which will be created with the first league football club PSV Eindhoven and may be displayed publicly throughout and beyond the project. At the same time these photos serve as material for further Artmails send to an ever-broadening pool of addressees. The final meeting in Xanten will result in a modern theatre evening where both international partners of the school and the public will be invited. Coverage of the whole project will be provided by a professional team. The art teachers of Stiftsgymnasium Xanten who are experienced in the organization and realization of expositions accompany the whole project and assure an aesthetic quality of all products. Various external partners not only bring a professional scope to all stages of the project, but also guarantee a wider public recognition beyond the participating schools and their environment, beyond the duration of the project itself.
