Administrators and teachers In Oddeyrarskóli show great interest in school development. School administrators play a key role in supporting school development and are well aware that a clear and effective development planning is necessary. The school administrators plan to attend courses in Portugal in November 2015 where they receive practical guidance on the preparation of such programs and how to support the professional development of teachers.
Some of the teachers in our school have used dialogue as a method of teaching and a few small development projects have been planned and implemented. A strong will is among teachers to increase the use of dialogue in the classroom to support further student competence. The school is preparing for að project where teachers will recieve training in the use of dialogue in the classroom with the aim to effectively use dialogue as a tool to learn. In the spring of 2016 we plan to visit two schools in Cambridge, England, which are known for using this approach and have been supported by well-known scholars in this field.
Oddeyrarskóli focuses on the use of information technology in student learning. Several teachers have worked at finding practical ways of using IT in the school setting and have also been extremely willing to share their work with the rest of the staff and other schools in the area. Among the things that have had positive results is Google for education that has been used in many aspects among management and teachers. Google is also useful for student collaboration and supports teachers when working with student projects. The use of Google has had a very positive impact on teacher feedback in the form of formative assessment. In the autumn of 2016 we plan to visit teachers in the UK who have been using IT effectively in their teaching.
