As a result of EU1+2 being implemented throughout Europe, the school recognised the necessity of up skilling staff in order to meet the demands of the new legislation. The school look to achieve 1+2 by 2018 within he Academy. We are currently working closely with our primary colleagues to ensure that they are supported in their implementation of EU 1+2 and that they are receiving training and support through an innovative training pilot. The candidate selected to attend an immersion course has been selected because they have been proactive in identifying areas for development and for finding a solution to these development needs by means of an immersion course. The participant has been working towards a postgraduate diploma in Spanish and now needs to complete time abroad in order to fulfill the residency requirements stipulated by the GTCS in order for them to teach two languages. The project aims to ensure that the participant is able to become fully qualified in two languages so as to support the primary and academy in the implementation of EU1+2, develop etwinning projects across the school and build confidence in their own ability and language skills. The participant will spend 3 weeks in Spain on an immersion course organised by LFEE. They will undertake a series of intensive language lessons where they will be shown new and innovative technologies and pedagogy that will help boost confidence in their own abilities and enhance their learning and teaching. They will have the opportunity to work closely with peers from across Europe, sharing good practice and creating real links between schools that will enrich classroom learning. It is believed that this course will help the participant grow in self confidence and improve her language ability; it will enable her to be able to meet the requirements for dual registration; it will give her resources that can be shared with colleagues in the primary and secondary sector and it will ensure that a rich a varied curriculum boasting personalisation and choice and breadth is available for pupils within the Academy. The participant hopes that this project will influence the school and departmental development plan with regards to the teaching of MFL; enable staff to recieve training; share good practice; encourage other staff to take part in the immersion courses and ensuring that EU1+2 is successfully implemented both within the Academy and the feeder primary schools.
