Springboard to the world
Date du début: 20 déc. 2015, Date de fin: 19 janv. 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project is a long term (12 months) EVS for two volunteers, which will take place in behalf of TEJO (World Esperanto Youth Organisation) at our headquarters in city centre of Rotterdam. TEJO has been actively working since its foundation to break the communication barriers which separate the young people all over the world, through the organisation of educational programs, weeklong conferences and trainings. The pursue of our fundamental aim, to promote understanding among young people, is possible thanks to the voluntary engagement of youngsters across all over the world, who establish a positive collaboration through the use of the neutral language Esperanto. Voluntary engagement is therefore the essential and vital source of work in our organisation. To our volunteers at the headquarters we offer a truly international and intercultural experience every year. Each volunteer will benefit from a manyfold and multilingual environment. He will support the staff in different activities in the fields of education, public relations and event management at a European scale. He will be trained to manage the everyday office and field work of an international NG(Y)O, and empowered to develop and promote his own ideas and pursue his alternative solutions. The project will largely focus on public relations with TEJO members, the promotion of its events and the transmission to the local and international young public of TEJO aims and values. The volunteers will therefore be encouraged to broaden their knowledge about the Esperanto language and the concepts of linguistic justice, rights, diversity and protection, and to advocate them in different manners, e.g. during our residential events or through the media and social network. Beside that, TEJO can offer the volunteers the opportunity to be involved in numerous activities. The EVS volunteers will be playing a supportive role to the TEJO staff and board. They will be able to design brochures and leaflets, edit website articles, assist the organisation of conferences (i.e. prepare invitations, prepare the conference rooms and catering, register participants, curate the documentation of events through photos and videos), update databases, prepare the background material for TEJO publications, draft the articles for its newsletter, support communication activities. They will also be involved in the life of the local Esperanto club, and create connections with other local stakeholders in the field of youth. Part of their work will have place in the bookstore and in the library, promoting their existence and functioning, welcoming and assisting visitors, organising events for the public (e.g. during the Open Days of the organisation). At the end of the volunteering year in Rotterdam, the volunteers will be experienced in communicating and cooperating with youth activists from anywhere in the world, have had a taste of TEJO 46 national section diverse cultures, and have worked in a multinational office in a multicultural city.
