The project is a long term (10 months) EVS for one volunteer: Paweł Fischer-Kotowski, from Poland. It took place at TEJO's headquarters, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Volunteering is very important to TEJO’s work, as almost all our activities are done on a voluntary basis, we provide our volunteers a really international and intercultural experience. Our EVS volunteer participated in this environment, supporting the organisation’s staff in the implementation of its different activities and in developing new projects. The main aim of TEJO is to break the communication barriers which separate the young people all over the world by using the international auxiliary language Esperanto. The project focused on informing the local and international young public about TEJO's activities, aims and values. We believe that our volunteer now has a better knowledge about the language Esperanto, the concepts of language justice and linguistic rights, and he also helped with promoting them in different manners, during events for instance or through media and social network. As planned, the volunteer managed the everyday office and field work activities of our international NG(Y)O, locally, nationally and at the European scale. The EVS volunteer has been playing an important role to the TEJO's staff and board. He was able to edit website articles, to help with the organisation of conferences (by preparing invitations, organizing conference rooms and catering, registering participants and preparing photo/video documentation of events), with updating our databases with the instruction of his mentor, preparing the background material for TEJO publications, draft the articles for its newsletter and support communication activities through social networks. Maintaining archives was also a part of his volunteering tasks, the Central Office of UEA/TEJO holds an important archive of the association's publications and our volunteer participated in maintaining it. He also helped by welcoming and assisting visitors during the Open Days of the organisation, and occasionally helped with protocoling board member meetings. At the end of the volunteer year in Rotterdam, we believe that our volunteer had a positive impact on our project and learned a lot of useful skills that will help him in his future career.
