Our vocational school expects that our teachers can improve their abilities in new teaching methods, didactics and professional and language skills. Moreover, they have the possibility to improve their intercultural and regional qualifications. This can be achieved by living abroad, communicating with teachers of other European countries and participating in cultural events. They are enabled to experience different cultures and ways of life in order to widen their own horizons. First of all, we will only send two qualified teachers who should act as distributers and spread their experiences. On the one hand they shall motivate our other English colleagues to practice new methodology for teaching English as a foreign language and to experience cultural and regional aspects of the foreign country. On the other hand they should create motivation for our students to be interested in learning the foreign language and to gain knowledge about other European countries. Furthermore, the students should get interested in differences and similarities between different European cultures. The senior students of our vocational high school have to be qualified for an advanced level so the fluency of the English language must have the first priority. According to our curricula we have to teach the subject "United Kingdom". Therefore foreign experiences are of great importance for the lessons. In our vocational school for social pedagogics it is very necessary that the students not only gain language skills but also are able to teach their knowledge at their workplaces to the children. Hamburg as a multicultural metropolis has nursery schools with children of differerent migration backgrounds. The sooner children learn a foreign language the more tolerant they will be in future towards other languages, countries and cultures. That is why knowledge in the foreign language is important for them to communicate. So our teachers need further qualifications which enable them to teach their students in a qualified and motivated way to have pleasure and success in the foreign language learning.
