Sport and physical activity are essential for improving health and well-being in society and can play a significant role in initiating community changes if used as tools with educational purpose for work with young people. Through this project, The team of Active Bulgarian Society aims to create a space where the concept of Education Through Sport will be presented to the group of participants in order to be further used and spread for promoting healthy life and better participation in sports within the involved local communities. The project aim is to build up competences of the target group to use sport and physical activity as tools for increasing active youth and civic participation and thus achieve sustainable outcomes in a long term frame. The course will also focus on stimulating development of the participants at personal and professional level. It will empower them to act as multipliers of the project outcomes within their organizations and their local communities. Objectives • To present to participants the concept of Education through Sport and to explore sport and physical activity as instruments for strengthening social cohesion, mutual understanding and this sustainable social changes • To build up competences of participants for using the Education through sport methodology and apply it efficiently in youth work • To demonstrate practical examples on how sport is used as a tool for increasing active youth participation • To empower participants to act as multipliers in their local communities • To share best practices and follow up project ideas focused on using sport as an educational tool in youth work The Project will gather 35 youth workers, willing to develop their competences and capacities to use sport as an educational tool, coming from 10 European countries. The program of the course will be based on non-formal education and Education through Sport specific methodology. Activities involving intercultural dialogue and communication and will be also conducted during the training course, using highly interactive and participative approach. Participants' prior experiences in youth work and sport sector will be important and used in the development of the learning process. Active teamwork, outdoor and sport activities and plenary discussions, as well as theoretical inputs will characterize the program of the course in order to cover all aspects of the project themes. The project is expected to equip participants with practical examples and skills on how to use sport for educational purposes for work with young people. Moreover the project will help the development of participants social, cultural and language skills. Its effects will impact the participating local communities by increasing their awareness regarding healthy lifestyle and well-being, improving physical activeness and involvement in daily sport practices in a general way. The steps planned in the project are also aimed at increasing commitment on active youth participation through sport activities and at creating an attitude among the young people on those topics. This will lead to increased motivation, interest and desire to practice not only sport but also diverse civic and volunteering initiatives in the future. Such an impact has to be seen in a longer time frame and will bring valuable and positive benefits and impact to society in general.
