Sports for healthy aging

The main objective of the project “Sports for healthy ageing” was to support the European Week of Sport label and to contribute with its activities to higher public awareness that is crucial in terms of health and wellbeing to get off the couch and make sport and exercise part of their daily lives. Project was promoting voluntary activities in sport in local environments in 4 different countries, together with social inclusion, new opportunities for elderly and awareness of the importance of health-enhancing physical activity through increased participation in, and equal access to, sport for all. The objective was to establish daily offer of guided outdoor exercises for elderly aged 65+ as a part of everyday possibility in local environment and also as a part of touristic offer. The project horizontal objective was strengthening the solidarity between generations. Final outcomes : New network of 9 partnership organisations from 4 countries; local municipality, ngo's, public institutions & economic sphere working on sports, health, work with elderly and tourism. More than 5000 people connected through 4 big sports events in 4 different countries to celebrate first EU Week of Sport. 1 flagship ceremony with 3150 participants promoting sport actively in 7 hours with open sport fields with sport facilities for elderly and others (fitness & street workout), lectures or individual presentations of topics on the field of sport and healthy aging, sport activities for all ages, promotions of sport’s clubs and societies, big concert event); 2 established and equipped open space fields with sport facilities for elderly and others; 128 hours of 6 training for 85 young sport volunteers; 1 sport tourist package with a pilot implementation and its 46 satisfied elderly consumers; 77 different sport trainings, implemented in 333 hours which gathered 2.438 participants who completed 3.396 hours of exercise; Brochure “I can do it to”, printed in 4 languages (1500x4 copies) for the promotion of sport among elderly and independent elderly sport’s training. Promotional brochure for the use of open space fields with sport facilities for elderly and others, printed in 5000 copies, 12 months of intense promotion of the European Week of Sport and sport in general. The most important outcome for all organisations, involved in the project is greater public awareness, especially among elderly of the importance of sport in our lives.
