According to the EC communication “A renewed open method of coordination to address youth challenges and opportunities”, "Europe's future depends on its youth. Yet, life chances of many young people are blighted". This is even truer for young disabled people which are caught in a vicious circle, marked by lower education levels, unemployment, and subsequently, further exclusion from society. Indeed, youngsters with disabilities are confronted with regular discrimination and barriers in different contexts: according to Eurostat, in 2011, the proportion of people aged 18-24 in the EU who left the education and training system with a lower secondary education level at most, was of around 25% among disabled people, compared with 12.4 % among those without difficulty, while the Europe 2020 strategy calls for efforts to reduce this general figure to less than 10 % by 2020. Therefore, the project aims at creating an adapted non-formal learning environment for disabled youngsters, focusing on allowing their integration in sports activities. In fact, the access to sport is an important component of an inclusive society as it helps to build team spirit and to strengthen ties between youngsters. The project will focus on building the capacities of youth workers to allow them to acquire the necessary competences to integrate disabled youngsters in sport youth activities.The project aims at:*Increasing the participation of disabled youngsters in sports activities and generating spillover effects to increase their participation in other informal learning activities;*Increasing the active involvement of disabled youngsters in social community life, encouraging them to become active citizens; *Improving the social competences of disabled youngsters, therefore increasing their motivation for learning, thus their education level;*Setting up good practices to be implemented in formal learning as well;*Raising awareness on the added value for the whole society to integrate disabled people.This will be done by:(1) Carrying out a baseline assessment of the current situation as far as the involvement of disabled youngsters in sports activities is concerned in selected EU countries;(2) Carrying out a study on the competences needed by youth workers to integrate disabled youngsters in sports activities;(3) Creating a training content which will be available online for all youth workers on how to involve disabled youngsters in sports activities;(4) Carrying out a dissemination campaign to encourage the take-up of the training and the implementation of activities involving youngsters with disabilities;(5) Creating peer-learning methods to allow newly involved stakeholders (4) having implemented to learn from each other’s experiences.360 participarnts will be involved in the exploitation of the project, including 60 youth workers to undertake the training and take part in the peer-leaning actvities, 150 disabled youngsters and 150 "fit" youngsters to take part in adapted activities organised by youth workers. The work will be articulated around 5 Work Packages:WP1 – Project ManagementWP2 – Baseline AssessmentWP3 – Youth Workers’ capacity buildingWP4 – Exploitation and peer-learningWP5 – DisseminationThe project will particularly result in:*The involvement of 30 youth organisations in the take-up of the developed training and in the implementation of sport activities including youngsters;*A cohesive network of organisations working together through peer-learning methods to actively enhance the inclusion of disabled youngsters in sport activities;*The integration of innovative training materials and learning methods among relevant stakeholders;*Adequate information and guidance about present training modules for youth workers about sport activities adapted for young disabled people;*The development of a wider EU awareness of the needs to develop innovative approaches to create an adapted learning environment for youngsters with disabilities;*The increase of the number of organisations that support a holistic and systemic approach to sport and disability to prevent social discrimination;*Knowledge in EU youth organisations about how they can implement strategies which will promote knowledge and new skills for youth workers about disability;*Young people with disabilities themselves will gain confidence and feel better equipped through access to social and sport adapted activities.On the long term, the project will increase the quality of youth work in Europe by bringing together leading organisations in the field of disabled inclusion thanks innovative peer-learning methods which will also allow more integrated use of ICTs and OERS in youth systems. It will also raise awareness about the positive outcomes of systematically allowing the inclusion of disabled when organising sport activities with youngsters.
