Spanish Language Training
Date du début: 31 déc. 2014, Date de fin: 30 déc. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Scottish Government's policy, Language Learning in Scotland: A 1+2 Approach, is being introduced to primary schools in Scotland. Although it will be a requirement from 2020, Saint Anthony's Primary want to implement it from August 2014 so that children and staff are comfortable with the model by 2020. The school enlisted a member of staff to attend the LFEE and South Lanarkshire Council Spanish Training Programme in order to have a larger number of staff trained in the field. After returning from the immersion course, Spanish is not only being taught directly by this teacher during a 50 minute slot with each class but it is also being implemented across learning and school routine. This means that children are being exposed to Spanish on a continual basis. The immersion course was beneficial to the selected member of staff and Saint Anthony's Primary because it improved her conversational skills in Spanish, thus increasing her confidence to stand in front of a large group of children and delivering a Spanish Programme. The teacher has collaborated with a number of other teaching professionals allowing for opportunities to share good practise. These teachers have included some from across Scotland due to the immersion course and within her local council area she has worked with secondary sector teachers and other primary teachers. This has been communicated back to Saint Anthony's Primary and implemented in the teacher's classroom in accordance with the four capacities contained within the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence guidelines. The staff member has shared good practice and resources with other staff members in Saint Anthony’s Primary, and also trained others in the field of Spanish. On a weekly basis she gives those teachers who have little Spanish speaking skills, a phrase that they have to use for the remainder of the week. A variety of methodologies and strategies have been used with a particular focus upon the use of ICT to enhance the learning and teaching of Spanish. One particular online activity which the participant took from the LFEE immersion course was the interactive quiz website 'kahoot'. It has proved hugely beneficial in engaging children in learning. The methodology of active learning has been used to involve and immerse our pupils in the language of Spanish, with a lot of ideas gained from the LFEE immersion course. By making use of games and songs, especially in the early stages of primary school, it has encouraged children to become more confident in their Spanish skills and receive a balance of skills in talking, listening, reading and writing. The selected member of staff has attended an additional course to achieve an accredited certificate in Spanish and believed the immersion course would extend this learning further. This demonstrates that the selected member of staff is dedicated to learning the Spanish language as she has already used a lot of time to study the skills. Since attending the immersion course in Malaga, she has attended a number of meetings and training events within the school's local council area.
