Spanish Language Refresher Course
Date du début: 1 juin 2015,
Date de fin: 31 mai 2016
The primary focus of my interest in participating in this Teacher Refresher course was to render me a more competent, experienced, knowledgeable and confident MFL classroom practitioner. I looked forward to engaging with the course content, learning new teaching methodologies and exploring innovative pedagogical practices. In attendance, In addition, I was eager to liaise with fellow teachers from across Europe with the opportunity of linking classes, twinning schools and participating in shared projects.
As a consequence of my participation and successful completion of the course, the insight gained, the proficiency acquired and the new relationships/friendships with foreign students, has, indeed, served to further enrich my pupils' learning in the classroom dynamic.
The bolstering and further of Modern Foreign Languages articulates very well with the current mindset of the Scottish Government and articulates very well with the European dimension, as outlined in my school's development plan, geared towards helping young people to acquire a view of Europe as a multi-cultural, multi-lingual community and to stimulate an interest in and to boost competence in other European languages.
On a local level, I provided feedback to my fellow teaching professionals to raise the awareness of this most practical and useful Continuous Professional Development, cascading down activities undertaken, training imported and didactic knowledge acquired.
Participation at regional - indeed national - events within an MFL educational framework [promises to enable me to disseminate my findings on the course, relating my impressions, experience and benefits yielded to various stakeholders.
On the European front, I proposed exploring - where appropriate - a meaningful professional dialogue with partner schools in Europe to identify ideas of common purpose and goal-setting, where MFL learners in these partnership establishments might be enriched by a shared interest and a positive linguistic, cultural and social relationship.
Actiivities undertaken throughout the duration of the course included formal Spanish Language instruction and grammatical analysis complemented by a diet of socio-cultural events. Moreover, the course offered us Modern Foreign Languages teachers the opportunity of working alongisde native Spanish instructurs to deliver selected elements of course content to other learners and to enable some critical feedback on our teaching approach and manipulation of the target langage (Spanish).
The course also highlighted recent, innovative teaching methodologies and devoted some time to a discussion on the most efficent language acquistion techniques and didactic principles.
The course included a dozen fellow Modern Foreign Languages practitioners from all over Europe with a preponderance of those from Poland. There were ample opportunities for the forging of friendships, the sharing of good practice in the MfL classroom and the galvanising of ideas on inter-scholastic project collaboration.
