Background of the Project:
Since 2012 a trustful cooperation between the Private Fachschule für Wirtschaft und Soziales gGmbH ( a private vocational school in Thuringia/ Germany with five facilities) and Care Co-operatives Limited ( a non- profit provider of social services in Brighton / Great Britain ) has developed within the framework of the LEONARDO DA VINCI programme. This cooperation has been continued in the ERASMUS programme.
Students in the training courses social care, social assistance, social pedagogy and curative education and social therapy participated in a 16 days work placement (including two travel days), gained a lot of practical experience in social work and this way deepened their skills, abilities and competences.
Objective:
Within the project "Social Jobs in Europe" the students learned a lot about the social environment, social care and support, the legal framework and local characteristics in Great Britain. They had the chance to expand and apply their theoretical knowledge and to further their perception of social issues. Of course, they improved their intercultural competence and their foreign language skills.
The cooperation between the private vocational school and Care Co-ops was consolidated.
Number and Profile of Participants:
48 students of the training courses social care, social assistance , social pedagogy and curative education and social therapy wenn in four different flows to Brighton. Students from our school in Sondershausen went in the first flow, students from our school in Gera in the second flow, from Erfurt in the third and from Suhl in the fourth flow. The students of each flow were from different training courses. They were sometimes lacking in communicative practice of the English language in a professional, job-related setting. They did not have the chance before to complete a part of their training in another European country and to gain practical experience in the social sector.
Description of the carried out Activities :
The participants in the project worked in different fields of social work. They visited and supported facilities such as nursery schools, elementar schools, youth centres, day care facilities, nursing homes, facilities for socially disadvantaged, unemployed and homeless people, schools and leisure facilities for mentally ill people and people with disabilities or impairments. The students participated in the activities in a music studio ( music offers for infants and toddlers ) and interviewed young people to produce an Internet radio programme on social and youth topics. They worked on the community farm, where they cooperated with the service users of Care Co-ops and planned projects for them. All activities were prepared and reflected together with staff of Care Co-ops.
Results and achievements :
- development of additional professional skills, abilities and competences
- received the European mobility documents
- new perspectives for the professional future
- getting to know job opportunities Within the European Union
- improvement of English language skills
- improvement of personal competences
- integration of international experience into the vocational training
The project " Social Jobs in Europe " was accepted and assessed very positive . Each flow was accompanied by a teacher of the " Private Fachschule für Wirtschaft und Soziales" . So the experiences can be multiplied by the students as well as the teachers
