SOUND in AUDIO VISION: SOUND and SOUND LITERACY at the crossroad of audiovisual media and contemporary, innovative art.European culture and heritage plays an active and decisive role in the historical experience and mapping of sound, as it does in the history of painting and literature. Although the History of Sound has yet to be documented. The increasing cross-border flow of disciplines, students and ideas along-side the development of information and communications technology require a new definition of sound education both as sole practice and as interdisciplinary practice in the audiovisual arts and media. Sound is as much to do with the act of listening as it is with artistic practice. It is embedded in our culture where we are compelled by the intensity of felt experiences. Space, time and technology are key reference points in conceptualising the present in an age of global interconnectivity. The focus of the master is that the relationship between theory and practice which is characterized by friction, exchange and mutual influence. A research platform shared by different European institutes and in dialogue with related institutes and research projects will provide a vibrant common ground for a RESEARCH and PRACTICE BASED master combining a technical, theoretical and artistic approach to SOUND LITERACY and SOUND PRACTICE. This innovative Joint Master Degree will enable students to access and exchange the eclectic and developing expertise of different European institutes and cultures, providing a unique opportunity for dedicated experimental research and practice in the field of sound within a diverse European environment.
