The Vesteraalen region businessenvironment is becoming increasingly more international. Sortland Upper Secondary School is a key player in developing relevant regional professional and vocational competency. This Project was an excellent Learning Method for students to develop vocational specific skills and experience in their trade, language- and cultural competencies. Specific objectives: 1. Provide our students two weeks of relevant work placement practice in the UK. This is a Learning experience combining international vocational practice, language- and multicultural training. 2. Provide information to regional business organisations about their opportunities the increase and supplement their international business-, language- and cultural competency level for their future vocational workforce. Activities and methodology: Two weeks of workplacement in sales, office administration and ICT type of vocational trades for a total of 4 students. ADC College provided workplacement companies, induction and mentoring of students, and also provided private housing for the students.. Sortland Upper Secondary School provided pre-travel training, an accompanying teacher for monitoring and safety purposes, and follow-up evaluation. In additon, we have performed marketing of gained knowledge and possibilities for our future students, lecturers and regional businesses. Results and impact: Our participating students report an overall satisfaction and good experiencebased learning, both professionally and personally. They found the workplacement relevant for further developing trade specific-, language and Cultural skills. Also, there are good results in developing greater awareness and attitudes on working with people from other cultures, and also a wish to try out international assignments and job openings. Our students have also been very good ambassadors for international learning and working experiences. They have presented their learnngs to other students in the region, as well as some Companies in Our region. We believe that this type of learning experience will further provide regional businesses with vocational candidates with valuable insight into in international business-, culture- and Language issues. Athough the participating students have different individual interests and outcomes from their workplacement, there is an overall much stronger awareness and knowledge about the importance and benefits from international Cooperation.
