The Sólheimar project has a choice of seven sub-projects. Each volunteer will take part in as many projectsas possible to take part in all of the activities here in Solheimar:1) Sesseljuhús – Centre for Sustainable Development and Education is a sustainable building and aneducational centre focusing on environmental issues. Educational events take place in a variety ofways throughout the year which the volunteer will take part in.2) Ölur Forestry – the only organic forestry in Iceland producing over 400,000 trees every year. The maintask of the volunteer is general maintenance of the tree nursery i.e. weeding, sorting, potting, wateringetc. Propagation of various species of trees/shrubs/herbs.3) Organic Horticulture in the greenhouse Sunna where the volunteer takes part in the daily work such aspicking, sorting and packing vegetables, grooming the plants and the ground. Planting, watering,weeding and placing pest controls will also be done by the volunteer.4) Organic food production and Bakery where bread, cakes and buns are baked daily and chutney, jam,ketchup is made. Main task of the volunteer is to bake, pack products, layer and arrange baked goods.5) Shop assistant (Art gallery, grocery store - coffee shop) Main tasks are to organize the gallery andserve customers.6) Art workshops where the volunteer will assist in weaving, textiles, painting, ceramics, organic soapmaking,candle-making and woodworking.7) Outdoor work, maintenance and carpentry. In Sólheimar there is always a need for maintenance,painting, mowing and the village is constantly undergoing renovation.The volunteers can help with other projects as well and come up with their own projects that they can workon partially.
