Current economic situation and increased emigration have caused difficult situation in families with children. For this reason more and more students coming to the vocational schools (which provide secondary education) feel socially excluded and stigmatized. Their motivation is low, they do not have any future goals or vision of their future profession. A lot of students do not have any basic social skills. School Campus students have no simple hygiene skills. The school's Child Welfare Commission raises goals for themselves to ensure that pupils leave school as a leader. Representatives of different areas seek to develop the student as honest, responsible and independent citizen. The Commission has set targets - to develop students 'social skills, focus on leadership training, to train students to work in teams, to develop students' self-assessment.
When working with these students there is a lack of practical knowledge. This project is designed to strengthen the Child Welfare Commission as a team when gaining more practical knowledge. Members of the Commission will gain new knowledge and learn new practical ways of working, will compare the different EU countries working methods and apply them in developing pupils' social skills.
Participants of the project are: two General Education teachers, one Psychologist, one Social educator, one Special needs teacher, one teacher assistant and one teacher of the school dorm. All of them are members of the Child Welfare Commission. Participants have gained a considerable working with disadvantaged students experience, because the commission has been operating since 2011. 5 members of the team will go to the courses in Malta "Preparing Students with Social Communication difficulties for the workplace", 5 members will be shadowing job in Spanish schools where there is a special program PCPI (Programa de Cualificación Profesional Inicial - Initial Vocational Qualification Programmes).
Malta Course participants will be introduced to a variety of behavioral disorders. They will gain access to the means how to organize the stress and anger management classes, they will also learn how to teach students to make friends and not to lose them. Participants will learn effective approaches to student's transition from study to work, will gain experience how to organize students' communication groups. Participants will gain practical knowledge and methods and will be able to adapt them to their activities.
By observing the special program, PCPI (Programa de Cualificación Profesional Inicial - Initial Vocational Qualification Programmes) at schools in Sevilla, participants will gain a useful experience how to motivate students with the lack of social skills for learning. They will also be able to observe how the educational institutions collaborate with businesses in witch the students can do an apprenticeship .
For management, implementation and maintenance of the project, the Project Management Team will be made. It will perform an ongoing evaluation and maintenance of the project. The Management group will consist of the Project Manager, the Project Coordinator, the Head of the Gymnasium, the Financier, the Head of the Department of Computing. The Project Management team will assess the achievements of the participants. All the work done will be recorded by Project Manager.
Participation in courses in Malta and job shadowing in Spain will contribute to the school's strategies to develop pupils' social skills. It will help to expand students' informal education activities. Also it will encourage building up links with the other EU's schools and strengthen the Child Welfare Commission's members as a team that will be able to provide efficient assistance to students. Furthermore, the project results will be shared in the Child Welfare Methodological Circle of Kaunas city.
