Social inclusion of deaf and hard of hearing youth

The main goal of the project is to connect mixed ability youths and youth organizations organizations Slovenia, Serbia and Croatia. The participating youth and organizations have different experiences in social inclusion of young deaf people in social life and this youth exchange will be first step in building an international platform for long term exchange of deaf and hard of hearing people in the framework of active European citizenship of young people with disabilities and social inclusion. The exchange will be implemented in Belgrade by Group “Let’s…” from 04.-11. March 2013 and will include 39 young participants (13 from all three countries: Serbia, Slovenia and Croatia) with their 6 youth leaders and 3 sign language translators who are necessary because group will be mixed of young people with and without disability with ratio of 50% deaf and hard of hearing people and other 50% young people without disability from all there participating countries.The program will contain interactive workshops in the field of: • active European citizenship with special focus on artistic and cultural opportunities and possibilities for deaf people, • transfer of existing European practices in local communities, • intercultural dialog with specific focus on culture of deaf people • dance workshop with the aim to encourage and empower deaf and hard of hearing people to take an active role by trying to place themselves in the role of dancers and choreographer. During the exchange, we will also organize other social activities with the goal to deepen interaction between participants and broader local and national community (public presentation of project, public discussion with broader society and local visits).
